I am a newly diagnosed t2 who is diet controlling initially. However the past 3 days ive been suffering from agonising cramps between my boobs and under my ribs with now have been sick and lethargic too in last 24hrs. Is this diabetes related maybe or just a bug? The nausea I can cope with but these debilitating cramps... not so much.

I don't know enough about diabetes yet so can't give an answer, but I would contact your surgery and ask to speak to a Dr or nurse. That way they could tell you if you need an appointment.

It is so easy, when you've been diagnosed with something new, that we assume that it is related to it. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling unwell and I hope that it resolves itself quickly for you.

No one here can possibly give you a definitive answer based on so little information. Diabetes in itself doesn't cause symptoms unless the blood sugar levels are at an extreme - either very high and too low. You don't mention what your blood glucose is, so we can't possibly know if this might be the cause of your distress, although they're not the sort of symptoms you might get from either extreme. Although everyone is different and we all vary an enormous amount in how we respond to foods and BG levels.

If it's a very painful cramp around your chest and rib area, one of the causes might be what I think is called costochondritis - which is an inflammation of the cartilage joining your ribs to the breastbone. I have a perpetual soreness in this area and often wake in the night wondering if I'm having a heart attack as a change in position can really cause discomfort.

But clearly if you're concerned about it, the only person that can help you is a doctor, so a consultation with your GP will be the only way to get a proper answer.

You may have gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining)
Symptoms include
  • Nausea or recurrent upset stomach.
  • Abdominal bloating.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Vomiting.
  • Indigestion.
  • Burning or gnawing feeling in the stomach between meals or at night.
  • Hiccups.
  • Loss of appetite.. You may find that drinking some cooled boiled water helps, but get checked out by your GP

@BooJewels I suffer from this as well - the first time I had it my GP thought I had Pleurisy! I get it if I stretch too much but it usually subsides after a day of two with the help of ibrufen.

Sorry you are feeling unwell. From a logical prospective as you have been diagnosed with type2 diabetes there's a good chance you have had it for a little while before diagnoses as it's slow onset so I would suspect you are unfortunately suffering from a bug :( Obviously we are not medics on the forum so can only hazard a guess so if concerned perhaps give the practice nurse a ring for some advice or your GP.

Best see a Dr, I had something similar chest pain for just over a week, so far 11 days.

I had a routine appointment for my monthly health check and to go over my BG number, it turned out I had a combination of a virus and the GP noted the chest wall pain to be costochondritis, I thought it might have been a side effect having not long starting testosterone replacement, and I think it's now starting to settle down, the onset was really painful from the sternum across the right side under the pectoral, probably down to sneezing or coughing, hopefully the o/p will get some treatment and diagnosis soon.

Have not been asked as yet to test my levels. Not even been told how to do this or even what they should be or even what mine were. Just that your type 2 and should be controlled by diet.!
