Very Very Recent Diagnosis...

And how are your BS readings? are you testing to see if they are coming down or are stable? I think you are answering your own question to an extent, in that you say it's working, and if that's how you feel and your BS are looking good, and when you next have your bloods checked they are looking good,. Which so many people on here say they generally do, including me, along with starting to feel better than I have for a long time. Then why worry about what other peoples opinions are, at least you are trying it, even if it does go pear shaped which I doubt, what have you lost ! as long as you keep an eye on things you should be fine. I try and keep my Carb intake per day to around 50-60 mark, some go right down to 20, I need to lose around 2 stones to be my Ideal weight and after only three weeks now I have lost 7lbs, not phenomenal to some, but it is keeping me happy. I don't go hungry and I'm a sucker for the Cinnamon Meringues that I keep rustling up :D now doing em with cocoa powder just a tea spoon in mix they are heaven, only have two in one sitting though @ 1.4 carbs each. I am waiting for your baking exploits to hit the forum? I'm sure you will find your own way with Diabetes soon, It's a journey and it starts with small steps and a lot of learning. You are never far from some good advice on here.

I finally went to the NHS Spotlight thing and learned a bit about nutrition....but some of the things I was told are things I've read here that I shouldn't have!

Was told Bananas are okay, Apples are OK, even things like pasta and potatoes are okay.....including jacket spuds!

What gives?

Where was that held? Could anyone go to it?
I have never been offered / told about any diet course or meeting and I never see anything about any in this county.

Angie, when were you diagnosed? I was diagnosed in March, so it took a few months for the letter to get to me, but AFAIK, it's been going on for several years now (at least friends of mine have gone to it as far back as 2009). I don't have the letter in front of me, but I was given a choice of three places to go for it -- either a church in the Ermine, North Hykeham, or I think Gainsborough. I will grab the letter from the car in the morning and PM you the phone number so you can ask about it. The first session is a two-hour nutrition session and the second one is 2-3 weeks later and it's all about your health and what to expect.

I was diagnosed Nov 2010 so I don't think they will send me much now.
I don't think my Nurse bothered as when I got diagnosed I lost weight (not intentionally but due to diet change) and got my numbers down from 25. She even suggested I should give advice to the rest of her patients!
But it would still be interesting to go to some of these events.
Regards
Angie
