Type 1
hi i am a type 1 diabetic (dafne graduate) and am getting really stuck in a viscious circle. I eat, take a test and take insulin to suit what i have just eaten, as soon as the insulin starts to work i have an overwhelming urge to eat again, so i eat take insulin etc...etc.. now would'nt you expect me to put on weight..i am 54kg and never go higher than 55kg.. diabetic nurse told me to make sure i was full after my meals ..yes i am full but an hour later i am hungry again..... any thoughts.

@powerley . Curious about your regime. Eat, test and inject.
Most diabetics would test, inject and eat.
On a personal level, too much insulin makes me go low and ultimately feel hungry about 2/3 hrs after eating.
Are your ratios correct? Have you done a basal test? Basic DAFNE information/ guidelines.
What sort of foods do you eat? Certain foods don't stay in the system very long and we can soon feel hungry again.
When you feel hungry do you check your BS? Are your sugars actually low?
It's one thing feeling hungry and another actually being hungry.
Hope you can find a better balance going forward.

ahhh i was always told to inject straight after eating as if i count the carbs on the plate and don't actually finish it all then i was in danger of having too much insulin. Think i need to do a basal test and rework my ratios.

Get back to DAFNE basics. Good advice

I 100% agree with everything @therower said.
Test, inject then eat. I'm starving if I start dropping. Some of us even prebolus and wait to eat depending on what's in our meals.
Also agree with food taking longer to digest or not. I need avocado with all meals to slow things down with the fat and fiber.
If I just ate carbs or protein I would be hungry. If my bs is fluctuating either way I am hungry.
How do you know how much insulin to take if you don't know your baseline?

I will go back to basics using my current ratios ..think i may have just got a bit lazy with regards carb counting ..back to my DAFNE books double check everything and take it from there.

I was told that years ago, now I have my insulin 20-30 mins prior and if I don't finish my meal I have a treat :)

spent a couple of hours last night studying my DAFNE books and acted accordingly so far readings have been.
