I think it might be starting to be not as effective. I am only on Victoza, so think I may end up on a few more drugs aswell as This morning my Bloods are 15 and I have not eaten since 11pm when it was small bowl of cocopufs.

Hopefully they will put me on something that doesnt cause much wieght gain as have lost over a stone and half on victoza since december.

Anyone else find after a few months it doesnt seem to be as effective.
 
Liraglutide/ Help

Hi all u type 2 people i was hoping that maybe some 1 takes Liraglutide i will be starting this medication next week so i would be truly great full if any one can tell me how they have got a long with taking this. hope u can help me

I was hoping some of the Victoza users might have answered you but seems they are thin on the ground today, so for what it's worth here is my comment.

How big was this small bowl of CocoPuffs ? Is this the same as Kellogs Coco Pops ? What was your pre-bedtime Bg level ? All of this could have a bearing on the level in the morning........

There does seem to be one or two who have problems with the Victoza, mainly down to dietary habits, but on the whole I think the majority do very well on it. It may well be that you need additional Meds but have you had a close look at your diet. I certainly wouldn't be able to tolerate much of things like bowls of cereal without it affecting my Bg levels a fair bit........

There can be many reasons why your morning level can be high besides diet. One is that your pre bed levels were so low that during the night you 'Liver Dumped' so giving rise to an elevated morning Bg level ?? Confusing, I know !

Hi bud thanks for the reply I looked up my pre bed results at about 1am it was 5.7 so it seems like I might of liver dumped. It was cocopops just up we call them puffs :lol: I measure them out to 30g with semi skimmed milk. But it does look like the victoza worked and burned off the cereal before bed and maybe it just pushed me a little lower.

I am on some antibiotics that are pretty heavy for a gum infection so it might just be im out of whack just was quite a shock at the result in the morning. I tested it again 1hr 15 mins later at college and it had dropped down to 6.3. Think I might of just jumped the gun looking at the data.

Hi Pauline, I have been on Victoza for 3 weeks now, week 1 taking 0.6 and after this went up to 1.2. At first I felt very nauseous and couldn't eat a thing. I also suffered with terrible belching which smelled of rotting eggs! This was remedied by taking acidophilus capsules or an actimel. I took buccastem for the nausea. All these symptoms have passed now, I just get a wee bit sick now and again. I lost 4 pounds in the first week and my clothes are looser. No more weight loss though. This week I have experienced the most horrendous constipation if my life, even senokot won't shift it. I hope this helps you, good luck for next week and keep us posted.

hi everyone, been on victoza one week now, had no problems except for a bad dose of sinusitus now on strong antibiotics for that. BS coming down slowly from 19 to 15.6 n morning readings from 11 to 9.8 appetite dulled to just two small meals per day. Have to stay on 0.6 dosage for 1 more week then go up to 1.2 dosage, come next weekend my husband n I will be in france n belgium so am bit wary of any side effects kicking in with dosage increase, have been told to drop back to 0.6 dosage if any severe nausea kicks in on higher 1.2 dosage. Lost 4lbs this week so am well chuffed both with weight loss n victoza tollerance.Have been told with only being on victoza I will probably need just a bit of levemir insulin aloongside victoza to tweak my levels down bit more, they will see how I go on when I up the dosage to 1.2 been instructed to test 4 times daily after every meal time n upon waking also. Been getting 1-2-1 diabetic care n counselling as unusual n complex case .[so they tell me] Had 5 lots courses of antibiotics for 5 lots of various infections, tests for crushings disease n vitamin D deficiancy also underway. Find antibiotics send my BS readings bit off beam n erratic! Have to say victoza gets my vote n thumbs up for now am sooo chuffed that I can actually TOLLERATE it given my weird n sensitive body n system. Victoza what can i expect

Hey Guys

after my last 6 monthly check up my bg was 7.8 and my weight was up...my GP suggested Victoza which i am due to start in five days time...i am on 2000mg metformin,perindopril and simvastatin..i start work at 4am...what would be the best time to take it and what side effects can i expect .

You can take VIctoza any time you wish to suit you. So long as you keep to that there should be no problem with it.

If you have a read through this thread there are many and varied side effects listed, however....they are not compulsory ! Most have had little or no side effects usually. In fact if you read the known possible side effects you would probably never want to take it !! Don't let it put you off.....it is apparently a very effective drug for many.

Lets see if some actual users will give you some answers ?

hi jez. Am new on both victoza n the forum, hope my reply helps? You can use victoza any time day or night to suit ure own lifestyle n work etc... I inject every night at 7pm n had no problems at all, as victoza works 24hrs thats why you HAVE to take it at the same times daily or nightly. I eat at 5-6pm so an hour later is great after food settle n washing up done! Just keep an eye on yourself n do test ure blood sugars to see whats happening. I have only been on it 1 week now lost 4lbs n seen my BS slowly coming down so am well chuffed. You may get a funny taste in mouth to start with but after 5 days it went. [ I did ] Victoza does work for some n produces good positive results. Alll you can do is give it a try n look after ureself . Let us know how you go on. Hope this helps? Anna.x
 
Victoza side effects

I have recently started Victoza and was wondering if anyone else on it has found problems with tiredness or eye redness? if so, did these side effects go away in time? Also, does anyone know the benefits of taking metformin with victoza? Thanks in advance

Thanks Anna...I keep reading about the side effects...i know i shouldnt but i feel myself drawn to read it every day ...I have my appointment on wednesday with the Diabetes nurse so i will let you know how things go Thanks again Jez x

I've been on Victoza for 1 week too. One day I had Nausea, one other day I was light headed. Mostly, I've had diarrhea and constapation. Seems worse if I eat a large meal than if I eat a smaller one. I've called the Dr. and told him that I was going to stay at the .6 dose and not dial it up to the 1.2 for awhile until these problems settle down --- he agreed. I've been happy so far with the results. I'm also on Metform 2000mg.

Hi all... First week of taking victoza I was sooo tired in the mornings upon waking, now into my 2nd week am bunged up! [constipated] no pain just discomfort, 5days eyes bit gritty but nothing serious or moan about. Be two weeks on friday been on victoza then I have to crank up to 1.2 dose, however if I feel more than queasy can drop back down to 0.6 as will be away on holiday with the hubby. Am finding tiredness lifting n more energy replacing tiredness. Sometimes to get the ultimate results we have to hang in there thro bit of a grim ride then we turn the corner to the best of the ride! [rollercoaster] ? Am well chuffed with my BS down a bit already n 4lbs weight loss last week. Hopes these few facts helps last few posts n encourages too... Anna.x

Is anyone on this does it work Im so scared bout the injections and I on 2000mg Metformin sr and my consultant wants to put me on Victoza

I'm a noob on this forum so please bear with me.
First a little background, Been Type 2 diabetic since 2005 and just diet controlled for 2 years (HBA1c 7.2) then started metformin for 2 years but HBA1c still climbing so my GP then decided to change my Metformin from 2000mg per day to 3000mg and thats where things went wrong. My body took a reaction to the large dose and all my joints got inflamed so then it was back to the drawing board as far as medication. Tried slow release metformin but no good, started on Glicazide ramping up to 320mg per day but my HBA1c was still climbing, Tried a lower dose of metformin as well and I'm able to tolerate this.
This brings me to the present, I've just started Victoza today and here are my stats
weight 13st 13Lbs
HBA1c 10.2
Blood sugar normally range between 14 and 18 any time of the day
My medication now consists of
Victoza 0.6 but going to 1.2 next week
Glicazide 320mg
Metformin 1000mg

I'll try and keep you all informed on how its going

The injections aren't the sort like vaccinations you may dread from your childhood, with a microfine needle (I have the 8mm ones) being inserted into fat around your stomach or thighs I haven't felt any sting for more than about 3% or 4% of the time the vast majority of the time I don't feel a thing, and as long as you don't move it around whilst injecting it really isn't a problem (although the thought might be). The lancet for testing your blood sugar is certainly a lot more painful than a Victoza injection, and even that isn't too bad.

The nausea thing has left me, unfortunately, as I was really using this to help with the weight loss. I felt I was not taking my dieting seriously for the last month or so, feeling a lot hungrier and falling back into a few bad habits, i.e. chocolate, larger portions, occasional grazing and missing the odd injection, but I'm very pleasantly surprised that I've only put on 0.2kg in a month (which typically could have been a 5kg increase for me in the past), so it is back to trying to eat more sensibly again.

I wouldn't try reading the warnings on the leaflets, instead try it, if you are offered it and then if you get unwanted side effects you can't cope with, then read the leaflet if you must. Even then it is worth persisting with IMO as it does seem to be pretty effective. At my last clinic at the start of February my HbA1c was down to 5.7 and that was with very erratic metformin use (runs the guts out of me - then it occasionally kills off my gut bacteria).

Just a bit of my experience of using Victoza it to sort out my diabetes with the probably more important (very much wanted) side effects as a weight loss fat fighter/appetite suppressor.

Hi all, i'm Type 2, started with gestational 23yrs ago, now insulin treated for 9 years. Hba1c 8.5, 105kg, c-peptide 120. Started Victoza yesterday - and already couldn't eat more than a very small portion this evening! Will definitely lose weight at this rate! Very excited. No nausea, slight queasiness at most and only once or twice - does it build up over time, or is the fact that I'm ok after 2 days a sign that it will be ok?

Hi everyone I am new to this site although it has really helped me the last month. Have been on victoza for just under 2 weeks now and so far results are fab !! My blood levels have gone down from 22 to 5.3 on a morning and have lost a total of 10 llbs whoop!!!!! Have had a few side affects but all I can say is it was worth it

Hi all.Have to let you all know I feel "great" today, more alert vibrant and energetic. Tonight I have upped the dose to 1.2 for the very first time, will wait n see how I go on next 48hrs....? any symptoms will have kicked in by then. For those of you scared of the needles ask for the smallest ones 8mm n just go into fat of your tums SLOWLY n GENTLY guarantee you honestly wont feel a thing use pens at room temperature only n not fresh out of fridge [it stings when yet chilled n cold] always follow your diabetes specialists advice etc. To be honest the finger test can hurt more! Plus thought is often worse than actually doing it. Can understand needle phobics tho, as I hate air planes n never fly due to my fears. Am in belgium n france next week with my hubby, [going via big boat] n taking lap top plus full kit n caboodle with us. Will keep you all posted how I go on! Anna.x
