Visceral Fat

In October 2016 I bought some Tanita scales. I weighed 100 Kilos at the time and had a visceral fat measurement of 13.5 .

Tanita suggest 1-12 is healthy and 12- 65 progessively worse

10 kilos later by visceral fat measures 11.0- so I am now in the "healthy" range.

I still have another 4 stone to lose to become truly slim.

I would be interested in comparatives for other women if there are any. i.e. how good is 11? what am I aiming for ? does visceral fat ever get to zero?
thanks

I think it will go close to zero but maybe takes hard work to get there , But even body-builders especially women have a hard time to get rid of the last fat and are on extreme diets to get rid of the last fat, some only eating celery sticks the last week before showing off.

how do you measure the visceral fat ..? ...

I think the total level of bodyfat is the easiest way to keep an eye on fat level in ones body, so I´ll aim for a body mass index of around 19 , because I obviously have a tendence to get fat, so wan´t to be in the real low end... my current BMI is 28.5 and I started out a 40.5 which was life threateningly fat.. very much of it visceral fat unfortunately...
I find this calculator fine for finding the ratio between fat protein and carbs when loosing weight

thats smart... what I have heard about loosing fat is that it is in no way possible to decide which fat one will burn first or last... but anyway I think fat will go from the visceral fat faster than on the hips... but in my own case where I use my leg so much in fitness. the fat on my legs are almost gone and I still have some on my stomach... and we carry our empthy fatcell withs us unfortunately so if once having had visceral fat the cells will stay there ready to fill up first chance again... :hungover:

you have a very ambitious target ! I've been very impressed with the seeming consistency of your weight loss numbers .I'm up to 56 lbs now since 1 August but the last 2 kilos has taken me more than 2 months!

I think metformin has helped me a lot... I have never before succeeded in loosing weight.. actually really only once been banting for real... and only for 1 week... except from the 7 month I lived from glucose and saltwater at the hospital..and that was againt my wishes....I also think what has helped me being steady in weightloss is that I have gotten my leg muscles in top shape very fast not only in a little shape but very much.... which is probably more than most can do with arthritis which I also have in my feet and some in the top of my bones close to the hip.and in my hands.. think I have been lucky that my pain has gone so much down.. and that I build muscles rather fast...

by the way I know it is harder for most others... just want to show others that also extremely overweight persons can get into shape again and show there is hope... but if I only lost my weight and did not get my muscles in shape , the muscles would burn a lot less when I don´t excercise... maybe I burn 10% more all day round when not excercising than before...makes it much easier to keep the weight off.

must say I also do it still in hope of getting rid of my diabetes which has not happened yet :)
and on no day eat more than I burn only Christmas eve...!

@CherryAA You have done well to lose 10 kg and reduce your visceral fat from 13.5 to 11.
I know women are different, with fat on different parts of the body than men who tend to accumulate it more around the midriff.
I have lost 14 kgs, but my visceral fat is at 7. I don't know what it was before I lost weight as I didn't have scales which measured it then, but I would guess it must have been high as my fat was almost entirely around my middle.
I'm finding it difficult to get the visceral fat any lower. I wish I could get as low as @AndBreathe who has said he has a VF of 3.

Yes, @Prem51 , my VF is 3, and has been for almost 3 e=years now. I have no idea where I started as I only acquired my Omron scales around 4 months, post diagnosis, when I was already at 4 (I think).

These days, my weight is pretty stable; like everyone else I vary by a small margin day-to-day, but whilst I do a step-on/step-off routine every morning, I only use the full scan, including the hand grasps once a week, and note the VF from there.

Going back though, to your original question, @CherryAA , you have clearly edged into the good range. How good is good enough is all very subjective. We all need some body fat to protect our delicate internal organs from damage. I didn't set out to achieve 3, I set out to become trim, and ended up very trim, which resulted in the low VF score.

Good luck with it all.
