Hi.

I have a B12 deficiency and was wondering how often people had injections for it.

I have mine about every 3 months and am due one now. I'm feeling extremely tired - so tired I was on the verge of tears at work today & would have cried if I had the energy to!

I'm well aware that lack of B12 causes tiredness so I was wondering if anyone had their B12 more often than every 3 months?

I'm also open to any other suggestions of things I can take to help with tiredness.

Thanks

Consultant said to have it every 8 weeks , gp said every 12 weeks I agreed on every 10.. ....
Need blood test as we'll though as numbers can go up or down .....both make you feel unwell and very tired...
The tiredness is awful .....
An injection is really the only way of keeping levels topped up and getting straight into the blood stream to start working...
There are tablets but so slow to work .....

Are the tablets on prescription or just over the counter? Just wondering if I can top up my B12 levels with them maybe.

Maybe I will ask for another blood test then and see of they are high enough or not.

I had 6 injections in 2 weeks and then went onto 1 every 3 months but not sure it's enough :(

There is a pernicious anaemia forum that has lots of advice on how to raise b12 when you can't get enough injections to feel well.

I lived in Wales and my b12 jabs were stopped after 3 years of having them oreviously in England. I paid privately for a B12 infusion from an anaethetist. I also got superstrength cobalamin tablets.

When I returned to England I stopped taking anything or paying privately and my levels dropped but still weren't low enough to get injections back. 2 years on my levels have now shot through the roof and are way to high... So now they are doing further tests to find out the reasons why as this can be linked to lymphoma, leukaemia or liver disease.

I would suggest looking at the PA Site as there was a lot of info on there.

Hi. I have B12 deficiency -- I had very low levels indeed and some minor nerve damage -- but have an injection every 4 months. I don't find a link to fatigue, but that may be just me. I have read that people with B12 deficiency can almost subconsciously train their body to feel exhausted if they know that their injection is imminent. The injection should resolve deficiency problems. If you find that you still suffer severe fatigue it may be caused by something else, possibly linked to whatever is causing your B12 deficiency -- increasing the size and frequency of your B12 dose may not be the answer. Do discuss this more with your GP.

Hi patch, one every 3 months is the norm , I believe you can have two much, hence the time gap, I have had tablets from gp but they are two slow....

Kat

I just wish I had an immediate answer of why they have jumped so high...especially after having a decade of them being so low, and not changed diet at all...

I got my cobalamin tablets off the internet when I took them. I also got the fluid from a UK source and injections from somebody that was mentioned on the PA site. Got a retired nurse friend to give them to me. I felt so awful.

Afterwards I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia instead...however 90% of fibro symptoms for me since I started taking D3 supplements....

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the PA website. I finally got round to having a look tonight and it looks like there is lots of useful information. However, I now realise that there is more to this condition than I first thought! Lots of reading for me to do....
Thanks again - I wouldn't have found it otherwise!

They were brilliant with me, lots of advice. Glad you looked it up... There is a lot to take in.... Good luck!!x
