Hi everyone ,

I am still awaiting my results for hbAc1 Al it's a week later, my doctors have told me the nurse wants to speak to me about my vitamin d levels, are they linked to diabetes ? My fasting blood sugar levels were 6.4 , I'm so confused as to what is wrong with me? I have all the symptoms of diabetes, I've ordered a BG monitor so will be testing my own levels from now on.

Can anyone help ?

Well, supposedly low vitamin D levels are associated with higher rates of type 2.

What do you mean you have "all the symptoms" of diabetes? That's quite a few symptoms!

Anyway, the obvious symptom is elevated blood glucose levels. Your fasting level is high, but the HbA1c will provide confirmation of whether your blood glucose levels are in the diabetic range, as will your self-testing.

Thank you,

The symptoms I had that caused me to go to the doctors at first were, going to the toilet alot, blurry vision, and extreme tiredness.

I just wondered if the vitamin d ties in with pre diabetes / diabetes? I also had elevated liver blood results as well :(

Well, those are only a few of the symptoms, which is good. I had nerve damage in my feet, which is really unpleasant, but no other symptoms.

The vitamin D and liver issues could all tie in with the type 2. Regardless, the best way to proceed is to lower your blood glucose levels, preferably through diet (i.e. low carb high fat).

I personally haven't heard of low vitamin D being associated with diabetes. A very large percentage of people in the UK have low vitamin D levels because we do not get enough sunlight here in the winter months. It is very common. This can easily be sorted, and your nurse may prescribe supplements for you.

Oh ok, I have had a look on my friend Google and it seems the liver and vitamin D may tie in with diabetes, just wondered if anyone else had similar results when being diagnosed

I think you would best serve yourself by waiting to see what your nurse has to say. I also suggest you ask her for a print out of your blood test results so you can look at them carefully when you get home. They will also be useful in the future for comparison as you will be having a lot of blood tests from now on. Stressing about it all will be doing you no favours.

Thank you, I'm gonna shut myself off and get to bed, and wait for nurse to ring me in the morning

My experience of being diagnosed was very similar - elevated liver levels (GP clearly didn't believe me when I said I don't drink), abdominal ultrasound with fatty liver and pancreas, low Vitamin D3 levels, hypertension and hypothyroid - GP said the symptoms/results tend to cluster. Vitamin D3 supplementation made the most dramatic change to my feeling of wellbeing and finally allowed me to exercise, stay awake and lose weight. I'd been trying to diet without success for months prior, but once starting Vitamin D3, the weight finally started to move.

Yours was the last message i got before leaving I think. You told me when i got my d levels normal i would feel better.
I feel much better now but dont know if it was the B12 D or BG.

I was tested for B12 but didn't have a deficiency, though I believe it can also make you feel dreadful. The fact that I was faithfully eating "healthy" oats every morning wasn't helping - I'd feel so tired after breakfast that I'd end up going back to bed for a couple of hours and I could barely walk to the end of my street. It took me longer to control my BG - the weight loss and feeling of wellbeing kicked in for me within a week of taking D3. I'm so glad I found out about the deficiency. Supplementation made me feel better than I'd felt in years.

I've been ask several times if I drink- which I don't, nice to hear from someone that has similar stuff going on as me, I was beginning to think I was alone and had some strange illness
