At my last Hbaic I was found to be slightly deficient in vitamin D3 so my GP prescribed me some tablets to take for 12 weeks and then I should be re-tested for this again when I have my next review. I've also noticed that vitamin B12 is also quite important for us diabetics but I haven't been tested for this so have no idea if I am deficient. Before I go ahead and buy some supplements over the counter, should I ask my GP for this test too? How have others discovered if they are OK with these 2 vitamins? thanks

Do you take the drug Metformin @carina62? I know those who take it can become deficient in vitamin B12.

Yes I do, I currently take x2 metformin daily. Maybe I will get tested at my next review but if not, I will ask to be tested. I don't think i'll start buying the supplements until I know for sure even though I am tempted to start taking them anyway but it may be best to wait and see. It's amazing how many things you find out on this forum that GP's should do but don't do. I also take statins and have been for years and I heard that taking these can deplete the body of Co-enzyme Q10 which is quite important to the cells in the body - it can all be very confusing!
