I don't take a multivitamin but do take Cod Liver Oil and have done for the last 23 years. Really I'm not sure if there are any vitamins that are recommended for type 1's, you should be able to get all the vitamins you need from your diet.
This is a tricky one because there isn't a lot of evidence based research that I know of for type 1 diabetics specifically (@phoenix - work your magic please). Personally I supplement with cod liver oil, magnesium citrate, and alpha lipoic acid, which is claimed to be an insulin mimetic (makes you more sensitive to insulin). I also supplement with vitamin D3 from October to March time. I have no idea if they help. Magnesium citrate definitely makes me feel more relaxed and I get better sleep if I take it in the evening.
I'd also be interested in what everyone else takes, and whether they feel this helps with their blood glucose control.
I take Berocca, but taking it gives me hypos, part of the illness that made me diabetic stops me absorbing vitamins and minerals from food (I cannot digest greens and cannot eat more than 1 root vegetable at a time), I am at a huge risk from osteoporosis, My joints are sore and I have lost muscle tissue. On the upside I can treat hypos with 4 jelly babies, yum.
Interestingly, I take almost exactly the same as Craig81... Apart from that I take a fish oil, not cod - and a multi/pre-natal - but you possibly don't need that... ;-)
- for what it's worth, I do notice if I don't take the d3 & fish oils - I get more achy/lower mood... But the alpha-lipoic I'm never sure of!
