Seems like that beach holiday shape aint no aspirational fad... 8)

"researchers from the Medical Research Council (MRC) Epidemiology Unit, UK, reported in PLoS Medicine. The authors explained that overweight people with a large waist, over 102cm (40.2 inches) for men and over 88cm (34.6 inches) for women, have approximately the same or higher risk of eventually developing diabetes type 2 as obese individuals."

"They found that:
7% of males with a large waist who were overweight eventually developed diabetes type 2 within ten years
4% of females with a large waist who were overweight eventually developed diabetes type 2 within ten years"

A large sample study so when will the general pop be alerted to this risk and get info on how to achieve the near-impossible? 8)
Mine is ok now but only after diagnosis... I think of it as something I wanted for years but shame about how I had to get there...

I had tyo have a steroid injection the other week for another health problem, and the nurse measured my waist. She said that the chances were I would never have got type 2 if my waist had been smaller. I am VERY apple shaped.

Figures I saw suggested a "waist greater than 37inches" in a man represents a risk of diabetes. Problem is, was that a 6ft 1.5inch man like me, or a 5ft 3inch man like my mate? Surely a huge difference. I'd have thought a better factor would be a ratio between waist and height measurement
