Waiting on diagnosis- erratic readings?

sgc123

Newbie
Hi all,

I have been having what I thought was low sugars and crashing, feeling poorly. Waiting on blood tests but bought my own monitor to have a look for myself.

Are these “normal” or erratic?

My readings yesterday.

6.6 on wakening
8.2 before breakfast 1.5hrs after awake
8.8 after breakfast

I had half a can of coke just to see what would happen…

11.2 10 mins after,
13.4 1/2 hour after

Then three hours later before lunch I could feel the hunger and low blood feeling.

Reading was 3.7 so I had some juice and tested 15mins later and was down at 3.5 so maybe could have been lower. I ate immediately and got back up to 10.3.

Last night my lowest was 4.4 before dinner, 9.7 90mins after dinner then 8.2 before bed.

I rang the doctors yesterday to ask about these but was just told to wait on the bloods.

Going by this website and nhs guidelines these are not “normal” for “normal people”

Any advice?

Thanks

What was your last hba1c levels?
Your fasting seems to be prediabetic.
Your testing around meals, is variable on what you ate, portion size and so on.
You have no reference point to say whether it is normal. It will take many readings, to get a n idea, what will trigger high or low readings.

I would wait for your results, it should only be a couple of days, and go from there.

So finally got the hba1c levels back at 37! So normal. Waiting to see the nurse to follow this up but why would a non diabetic have such erratic blood sugar levels.. I have seen 9,11s,13s and I have a low blood sugar every week for the last 6ish weeks which going by this forum only happens when u take insulin…. Making me think is it my pancreas now? good luck to me trying to get them to listen to check for anything else :( so frustrating

If I eat carbs, sugars or because I'm lactose intolerant my blood glucose levels would be on a rollercoaster ride.
Because of my hormonal response including insulin, isn't enough or imbalanced to do this to my blood glucose levels.
I would ask for referrals, if you are seeing very high numbers and and readings under 4mmols.
Keeping track of your BG levels is a good idea.
The 37, is also my last hba1c reading.

@sgc123 if you have instagram, check out all the graphs and science by @glucosegoddess - non-diabetics get glucose spikes and lows depending on what, when and how they eat, everyone should be aiming to minimise the rollercoaster effects of carbs.

Obviously the timing and scrupulously clean fingers when testing can play a part in the readings, and as an HbA1c is an average it cannot tell whether you have been at c. 6.3 constantly or running really high and really low over the recent past to end up with a 37. If you 'treat yourself' to a Libre for a fortnight, you will definitely get a better picture of what your levels are doing throughout the day; don't obsess on the numbers but the graphs, and it could give you something to go back to the GP with to consider any next steps.
