Wake up call

I have been T2 diabetic for 21 years and to be honest have never taken it that seriously. I am 66 years old, need to lose 1.5 - 2 stones. I’m now recovering from this years flu virus and it’s been the biggest wake up call ever. My blood glucose is always high despite insulin and metformin. I do go for my annual retinal screening and chiropody appointments but not much else. Where on earth do I start to put things right ?

Its never to late to turn around and make changes. At least you're seeking help. This is the best place to seek help, theres so much information on here. I still think you should speak to your gp maybe theres other reason for your blood sugars being high, perhaps your diet? Anyhow theres loads of good people on here that'lll help you.

As a type two, if your diet is wrong you don't really have much chance of low blood glucose, unless you overdo the insulin, of course.
I am lucky in that if I don't overdo the carbs, I don't have a problem. There are those who have managed to lower their need for medication - even insulin - by decreasing intake of sugar and starches.

Hello and welcome,

I agree with Usmanmo- you can make changes.

What type of food are you eating- if you are on insulin and make any changes to your diet you will need to monitor the effects very carefully.
