I've always cycled and at 62yo I've kept it up after my diagnosis of diabetes 10 years ago. I wouldn't say I was fat, just that I have a pear-shaped tum.

I saw this chart today which I found interesting as it says that walking is nearly three times as good as cycling in terms of burning off energy. Maybe walking more will help!

I love walking. So much easier too - nothing to lock up when you want to go inside/ pee behind a bush /explore somewhere.

The best exercise is the one (or ones) you enjoy.
It may be walking, running, cycling, dancing, gardening, ...
To me, it doesn't matter if one will burn more calories if I don't like doing it, I'll stop.
On the other hand walking and cycling (but not at the same time) provides variety, exercises different muscles, give different "highs", ...

Your chart is per kilometre, rather than per minute of exercise. So yeah, if you bike 1km or walk 1km, the walk is a better workout. But for me a kilometre of walking is about 12 minutes, and a kilometre of biking is about 3 minutes. So if I cover 4 times as many kilometres in the same amount of time, then biking is slightly more exercise than walking for a workout of the same duration.

If you have a fitness tracker, then your heart rate is a reasonable measure of how much exercise you are getting.

I would objectively test. The best results I have had are on a static bike. I would be dripping with sweat, and this was the first sign for me that diabetes can be reversed (8.x to 4.x mmol/l) drop after 45 minutes.

I do walk everyday as a maintenance routine, but it is hard to generate as much watts of output without a treadmill with resistance. The bottom line is to do something consistently. This thread has encouraged me start splitting walking and cycling.
