Type 1
I haven't gotten a period in months. I don't remember when my last one was to be honest. I am type 1 diabetic, I have a hypo thirod, high cholesterol, and am irregular. Is it impossible to have a baby with having all these problems? Or is it even safe ?

Irregular periods by themselves wouldn't stop you having a baby. They could just make it more difficult to,conceive.

Have you spoken to your consultant and asked if there'd be any issue with you getting pregnant? That's what I'd do if I had concerns about other health issues aswell as the diabetes.

No I have not but I'm just concern because iv heard about people with diabetes getting pregnant and having problems. Would you have any suggestions to what I should do to have a healthy pregnancy

I am currently trying to get pregnant but I worried because I have type 1 diabetes, hypo thyroid , high cholesterol, and have irregular periods but I have not gotten my period in months, I don't remember when was the last time I had a period to be honest. I have many many questions and concerns. Can I have a healthy pregnancy? What are suggestions to health me get pregnant and be healthy????

Done @Kayleepatron1221 and I've merged the two threads for you :)

The first thing to do is check if your other health conditions would have any impact. If they're ok to go ahead, then ask your diabetes team for a referral to the Pre-conception Clinic where you'll get lots of advice and help with planning a pregnancy with diabetes :)

You'll be prescribed high dose folic acid and will be told if you need to lower your HbA1C and be given help to do so.

Apart from that, eat well, sleep well, and relax :) A healthy diet is the foundation of any pregnancy diabetic or not. If your irregular periods are a problem, you could try ovulation tests after you get the go ahead to try.

A diabetic pregnancy is hard work as you need tight control but it's perfectly do-able :)

Do you know why you have irregular periods? Eg. do you have another medical condition? I agree you should be able to still get pregnant. The only thing that may make it difficult is a medical condition that affects your fertility. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome which is known to affect fertility and gives some ladies irregular periods as one of the symptoms. I've not had kids but I have a couple of friends with the same condition that have had kids, so it's not impossible. I wish you the best. :)

I don't know why I used to be in a bad drug and alcohol addiction but I am now in recovery and I'm sober now I'm taking all my medication and checking my blood sugar and I'm trying to take very good care of myself

Hi @Kayleepatron1221

Before I was diagnosed as a diabetic, I had problems with my period. Sometimes I'd get one, and then nothing would happen for months. I had tests done at the doctors as they said it could be a problem with my thyroid, but it turns out my thyroid was fine, they never did know why I had these problems - I notice you say you have hypothyroid so perhaps the two are linked? I am the same as you in the sense that I worry this will affect my chances of conceiving, but I suppose I won't know whether there is a problem until I actually start trying for a baby.

Perhaps if you're concerned it might be a good idea to talk to your GP for advice?
