I just wanted to say hi to everyone, as the title suggests my blood sugar was in the prediabetic range but after receiving my HbA1c results this morning I am now Type 2. If anyone's interested in the numbers, last year I was a healthy weight and my Hb was 43 but this year I've been under considerable stress. As a result I've put on over a stone and this morning's result was 53! I'm determined not to rest on my laurels and I'm using this as the boot up the backside I obviously needed. As of today I'm restarting my LCHF regime (and actually sticking to it this time!) and making sure I get enough exercise. A friend of mine is giving me her old bike next week so no excuses! The doctor recommended that I join this site and was delighted when I told her that I'm already a member :) She wants me to have another HbA1c in a couple of months and if it hasn't improved I might have to go on medication. Wish me luck!

Hi there. This sounds similar to me as I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in December 2014 and am now diabetic. I have also been under a lot of stress too in the last year which doesn't help does it?

I'm far from a healthy weight so I have a lot of work to do to shift it but have lost almost a stone in the last 4 weeks or so. And you're right, it is a kick up the backside as I initially started eating more healthily with my diagnosis in Dec 2014 and then "lapsed" back into old habits.

You're positive and determined as you're going to be out on your friend's bike which will give you exercise :)

I don't want to go onto medication either and want the chance to try to control with diet only.

Good Luck and keep us posted x

Hi, I had pre-diabetic HbA1C levels for a long time before I was diagnosed with T2D in February, after reaching my highest ever weight. The good news is that, with the help of this forum, I managed to reduce my BG levels after a few months of LCHF diet and only intermittent exercise (due to injury). One thing was instrumental for my progress - measuring BG levels every day, fasting, before and after meals. Do you have a meter? I can't recommend it any higher, as it showed me clearly what impact my food and behaviour had on my blood glucose. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it. I'm feeling better than I did yesterday, it was a bit of a shock but after reading a lot of threads last night I realised that this is a positive step. I can finally lose the weight and give my diet a much needed overhaul. I don't have to go on medication if I don't want to and judging by some of the success stories I could end up healthier than if I wasn't diabetic! As the saying goes, this is the first day of the rest of my life :)

Hi, and thanks for your reply. Your story is also similar to mine, I have a bad back and a metal pin in my shoulder after an accident 10 years ago so I have to be careful what exercise I do. I have a codefree meter which was recommended on this forum, and I've just ordered some more test strips so I can do a period of intensive testing. My mum is also Type 2 but has gone blind from retinopathy and has several other complications so I am dermined not to end up in the same position as her

Stress is often a huge factor. I think that every period of major stress in my life has had a twofold effect - firstly I haven't taken as much care over diet, and secondly my body has handled the carbs worse. It has been like going down a staircase made of stress-steps.

So this is just a wee reminder to take care of yourselves, chill, eat well and don't beat yourselves up! :)
We rarely have the opportunity to control the stresses hitting us, so when we can, we should enjoy ourselves and relax (in a totally lowish carb non food rewarding kinda way ;) )

Waves hi Brunneria, thanks for your kind words. You hit the nail on the head, most of my stress has been related to my mum (she's been hospitalised twice this year for reasons beyond our control) so if I learn from the mistakes I made then I can get this under control. I've invested in a swanky new journal so I can keep track of everything I eat and what effect it has on me.
