After a really busy weekend of running around Norwich, I decided to go out for lunch. Normally I would have fish and salad ( which I love ) but it was soooo cold that I thought 'bugrit' and went for the full roast. I had mushroom and marsala soup to start, then roast chicken and green veg, a yorkshire pudding, 2 small roast potaoes and a parsnip. I felt so guilty!! But 2 hours after, my reading was 7.7 which is quite decent for me after food :D
So apparently, you ( or I suppose 'I') genuinely can have a little of what you fancy on a rare occasion. Nice to know 8)

Life would be oh so boring if we cannot have an occasional night away from the all troo boring straight and narrow ...and at 7.7 no harm was encountered .. good for you :!:

And no doubt we will all have a day (or 2) off dieting on the 25th... 8)

I didn't quite realise that your body does actually deal better with T2 when it's in better condition. Certainly a few months ago, the potatoes alone would have thrown my bg's into the 10's at least  Must just remember to stay on the virtuous path most of the time, then I can have a yummy Xmas dinner with fewer worries :D

Naughty naughty jaykay..........................bet you can't wait till Christmas day!

There is much speculation aout how much damage is incurred by "occasional" binging and blood sugar spiking. My DN warned me that diabetes is pernicious and the biggest factor that threatens the long term outcome of diabetics is the accumulation of the "once/one wont do any harm". She advised that if you look after yourself very carefully throughout the year, then you can afford to ignore your condition on 6 occasions throughout a year. Six occasions meaning that on 6 days of the year, you can eat and drink as you wish as long as the 6 days are roughly equidistant. I have had 3 to 4 days of doing what the hell I like in a 6 month period and still achieved the 5% club at my next 6 monthly hba1c check.

That is something I have thought about recently, how will an off day affect me.

Yesterday I ate 7 wine gums, and they were delicious, but thats the 1st sweet I have had since March this year. I have a box of them and I swear I could have eaten the entire box, I just wanted to stuff all of them into my mouth.

Tonight I could eat an 84 inch pizza, with chips, coleslaw, garlic bread, chicken wings, breaded mushrooms, stuffed jalapeno peppers etc etc etc, I wont obviously, but I could.

So what do we do, if we do have an off day, how far can you go, and will it really cause such an awful effect long term? I would have thought, continued high sugars would cause the damage, but if you have high sugars for 1 day, say in a month, is that really all bad?
