Hi all :)

I've been a type 1 for 3 years now, always had poorly controlled sugars and spent the last 2 years in and out of hospital with DKA. As a new years resolution and because I'm hoping to try for a baby with my partner once my health is back up to scratch I made a conscious decision to get completely on top of my sugars and for the last week my glucose levels have come down, on average, from the high 20's to around 9. I'm immensely proud of myself, this has been the biggest challenge of my life and at one point I thought I'd never feel well again. Except I woke up on Saturday morning looking like someone had filled me with air overnight. In the last 4 days I have gained around a stone and a half (I'm under no illusion this is genuine weight, even with my great love for food a weight gain like that would be a challenge!) but I would love some reassurance I'm not the only one going through this. I'm struggling to get around and the feeling of being uncomfortable in my own skin is becoming unbearable :( I'm due to see my doctor this morning and hoping they can give me something for the discomfort. Any hints or tips on what I can do to help myself would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to end up back at square one with the diabetes but I need a light at the end of the tunnel! :)

Well done on doing so well with your diabetes! That's a light at the end of the tunnel in itself. Remember the feeling when you have had dka and how **** you felt, you don't want to get back to that. Unfortunately I don't know about water retention or anything so can't help there but I just wanted to say how well your doing, don't give up!!

For peace of mind, definately see a GP quickly to find out what the cause of the retention is as it can mean that you might be developing a problem with your kidney function.

Thank you :) I've been to see my gp this morning and they're sending me for a chest xray this afternoon and I've had bloods taken to check my kidney function. Hoping they fix me fast, struggling now! Trying to stay positive, got to keep reminding myself this will all be worth it in the end, not giving up!
