Water retention

As some of you know I am now onto week 6 of the Newcastle diet, and my weight has been falling really well, as have my BG's and FBG's.

I have not cheated at all, but this week I have gained 4 pounds according to my scales. I am as certain as I can be it's water retention, as it is physically impossible to have gained weight. I actually exercised away, more calories than I ate yesterday, and I ate 521 calories. Today's calories will be 655 if I manage all three shakes as well as dinner (unlikely) or 487 if I don't. This figure is about usual for me, and has been this way for the last five weeks.

I do exercise just about every day, but over the weekend have done quite a bit more than usual.

My question; does anyone know what may be causing the water retention? I feel slightly bloated (no constipation) yet have lost 0.5 of an inch from my waist. Is there anything I could take (natural) that would ease the problem? I did used to retain water badly and was on Furosemide, but have not needed a repeat script for quite a while.

Help?

Very obvious thing. Are you sure its not the scales? The hot weather could be effecting them (or you).

I weighed myself as I would normally, then got off the scales, went an put the kettle on, made a cuppa and tested my FBG then weighed again, so around 5-6 minutes between the two weigh ins, and both were exactly the same.

The heat, I hadn't thought of that, but why should that cause a problem?

Hi TP, that did cross my mind, but even if some flab has turned to muscle, I doubt it would be 4lbs? My exercise is usually only walking, although I have done a (very) short amount on the stepper (evil thing).

Well for the scales they will have some kind of spring made of metal. The expansion / compression rate of the metal in the spring may vary depending on the background ambient temperature. Clutches at straws....

The obvious other one is the lady thing of time of the month. That can easily account for 4lbs I think.

It is ovulation time, so perhaps, but it's more likely if it were actually time of the month. The scales are quite new. I'm at a loss.

What do your clothes tell you? I don't have any scales at home, but the way my clothes fit (especially my bras and waistbands of a particular pair of trousers) tell me when my weight goes up and down.

I have dropped 2 dress sizes since March, also 71lbs and my current clothes are getting loose. I do usually go by the tape measure opposed to the scales, but wondered if anyone had any idea why I might be retaining water, or if anyone knew a natural way to get rid of it.

Yeah, I think so TP, seems this is another mystery that I will just have to live with.

In my experience, if I am drinking too little, my body will cling to the water I do drink and put it in my legs. Are you drinking enough for the weather - 3 litres/6 pints sorta thing, plus a pint for every half hour of exercise outdoors?

Whenever MW stands on the scales and is less than impressed I tell her "it must be the time of the month", I find it helps. Of course if its just before I find I duck...

Well guys and gals, had a cup of black coffee about an hour ago, and now can't stay off the loo. Could be the water weight shifting.

Is coffee a diuretic?

Hi defren I have read your post you must drink water 8-10 glass per day and use some natural duretics like expelis its a natural duretic for weight loss.
