Type 2 Way to Convert to US Units for A1C?

I keep seeing A1C numbers here that seem really high to me but then realized maybe you use a different scale in the UK. Here anything over 5.7 is diabetic (I'm in the 8.3 range currently).

How does that translate to the scale in the UK? Is there a chart?

Since June 2011, the way HbA1c values are reported has switched from a percentage to a measurement in mmols/mol.

We also use different numbers for blood glucose, so your 100mg/dl is our 5.6mmol/l.
You need to multiply/devide by 18 to convert.

Here's a handy chart combining both hba1c and blood glucose in both units, I have it bookmarked so I can easily refer to it when needed.

Well my level is red in the chart but I'm trying to be positive that it isn't as high as it was when I was diagnosed (was like 108 on your chart).

Metformin and eating better has done wonders but I am stuck at this level now for a year or two. Hopefully it's not really quite as bad as the scary chart indicates.

Unfortunately it is that bad, Neenee87. Over time, those high numbers are causing very real, irreversible damage. In the end, poorly controlled blood sugar is a painful, gruesome way to die.

However, "better than it was" is at least extending the time of relative good health for you.

Diabetes control is a moving target for many of us. I hope you can find ways to tighten your control now that you're here and learning new ideas to try -just like me!

Take a look at the stories of the many people here who have got from levels similar to your original figure to remission with low carb eating, and how many of them used blood tests to determine what meals did & didn't raise their blood glucose too much
