Hi to you all,
Following a recent private message from a newbie.
Taking control of your diabetes takes time. It is not something that happens overnight and you have to be patient to see results. As long as the trend is towards lower numbers with your blood sugars then you are on the right track.
When members say that we are all different it means just that. Two people, with experience and good results could eat the same meal and their blood sugars may not be identical when they test two hours afterwards. One of them could have a much higher reading than the other. That is why we keep reinforcing that it is essential to test your blood sugars and if you haven't been provided with a meter and test strips please try and persuade your diabetic team that it is essential.
You are not a failure if it seems to be taking more time than someone else, we are all different.
The good piece of news is that this site and it's members will do the best that they can to support you so ask any questions that you need answers to, nobody will think it is trivial. The only way to learn is to ask about things that you are not sure of.
Hope this helps for newly diagnosed who are feeling down because they are not having the results that they want straight away.
Catherine.

Thanks for that,Catherine. You're right,it is not a race or a competition. The important thing is that your blood sugars come down and stay down.No one on this forum is ever a failure. We are all winners because we are doing something about our diabetes.

I have the opposite catherine

My 2nd hba1c was 5.1 which I dont know if i will manage to maintain but the advice you have given is good, people need to know that we are all different and the most important thing I wish id been told is not to STRESS if things go up and down.
I dont do well with higher numbers on my meter but know that when honeymoon is over it will all go to hell and that this wont kill you instantaneously

Indeed we are different and I think this thread should be stickied so all new members will see it on the top and access it for reassurance.

I was very impatient too and my doctor didn't give me any times for the meds to work or how long it would be until I saw a steady lowering of sugars. No meter either, He is adamant... But I'm moving soon so will try and find a doc who would prescribe the strips...
