Hello!!
Im still new to it all, on metformin x 3 daily after a meal, not getting any odd side effects, the odd tummy upset if i have rich stews... and ive been super good. Going to the gym, have loads of veggies AND no booze. God how i miss Gin...

Anyway, i have my best friend from schools wedding on saturday, and id love a wine or 2 to socialise and to celebrate with her. Not to get so plastered i show my pants to the world (yes, thats happened before...) SO... can i have some booze? Do i just not take my last tablet? Whats the "best" way??

xx

hi i've had the odd drink along with my medication, and no side effects so go ahead and have those few glasses of wine and enjoy your night :D
type 2 diabetic on metformin for 18 months

Hi Kimberley, you certainly can drink, a glass of two of wine will not do you any harm at all. Thing is, if you do it a lot, it could slow down weight loss, give you a bit of a dicky tummy and lower your willpower so you eat a few naughty things. But diabetes is for life, you have to enjoy yourself otherwise what's the point!!! I would take your metformin anyway and then have a couple of drinks, and .... have a great time!!

No problem with a few drinks on metformin UNLESS you have existing liver disease or are alcoholic - I'm sure you're not! By the way, why "miss" gin? Nothing wrong with that at all, providing you only have diet mixers. I get my best ever BG readings after a few single malt whiskies! Remember, there are zero carbs in spirits, and the alcohol lowers BGs, so have an occasional G & T if you like one
