My 'coming of age' was at Warner Brothers Holiday Camp, Osmington Bay, nr Weymouth.

Petra

Awe-inspiring but bloody windy through the gorges ....and no sign of Harrison Ford.

La Reunion

And finally ... my most memorable holiday ever from a cultural and personal point of view!

'Poor' sister island to Mauritius, and hence not very 'touristy' (which is good for us but not so for the locals) and quite different. Lots of hikers and cyclists rather than golfers (but there are golf courses if you want to spoil a good walk!). The mountain roads are steep with sheer drops and passing points on the 'drop' side and NO barriers. The island boasts one of the world's most active volcanoes, La Fournaise, and is one of the world's biggest vanilla exporters and, recently, a few shark attacks. A tropical rainforest, waterfalls, fields of sugar cane and ferns of every kind abound.

The culture is a blend of European, African, Indian, & Chinese creating food and music from India, China, France, Madagascar and the African mainland. The most widely spoken language is Réunion Creole. Local restaurants will happily mix Chinese, Indian, French and Creole cuisine on the same plate. Smoked marlin and palm hearts were both new to me. But, I've never seen so many 'trim' people, even though there a rum bars all over the place. Oh, and the roadside chicken on a spit is fantastic.

I'd love to see an owl in real life.

In London I've seen wood pigeons, ****, starlings, crows, ravens, pigeon hawks, a falcon, robins, parakeets, woodpeckers, swans, farm geese, egyptian geese, moorhens, Canadian geese, several types of gull, mallards, mandarin ducks and the odd heron but they never stick around long enough for a photo :(

Many years ago with being Scottish I took my wife and her brothers etc; to Scotland (their English) on a camping trip. Made a visit to the "electric brae". To this day they are still convinced a space ship left something to cause cars to roll up the hill.

Nice one!

I've been up to Inverness, but never had the time to go to Urquhart Castle.
It's a beautiful place by all accounts and I've always wanted to visit there.

Some day parhaps. :D

btw, it's reckoned Inverness is where you'll hear the
perfect accent for the Queen's English. (being spoken)

Urquhart Castle. Loch Ness.

It's an optical illusion, isn't it linsay?
The angle of the banks running parallel with the road
rise upward, whilst the road itself is on a downward slope.

I think. :D

Lucky you living in such a lovely part of the country.

willi.

HI,Linsay :)
Something that puzzles me, Occasionally you may get one or two days in Scotland when the weather is rather wet, cloudy and you can't see further than your nose, yet the Electric Brae still has this illusion with no view, also there used to be is a wee burn by the side of the Brae that flows up the hill.
Maybe I have been in England to long and have exaggerated great memories.

Roy, :)
