weight gain on low carb

Hi, Some help would be appreciated, I a T2 and have been low carbing for about 10 days, but have gained 1 lb in weight with no loss. been eating meat, eggs, fish cheese, veg grown above the ground and soya milk, no bread, biscuits or cakes, or refined carbs atall and no sugar. I can say that energy wise I feel so much better but weight not dropping, I have tried low carb about 2 years ago and did very well with weight loss, the only thing I have done this time is because I have an early start for work 6.30 can't face eggs etc, I havebeen having a pancake with almond and coconut flour with some soya you-gut, and soem bread made with these flours too but only 1 slice a day of either. I have been cooking with veg oil or coconut oil, any advice where I am going wrong please

You're not necessarily going wrong per se but it possible to over eat any food including fat and protein. The type of fat makes a difference to some people too. For me, those nut flours, coconut or soy anything, as well as dairy fat halts my weight loss in its tracks. Excess protein will too. It's advise to eat .8 g per kg lean body weight. For me that's only 45 g or about 6 oz.

In fact I just cut way back on nuts and dropped 2 pounds in three days. Nuts are known to stall weight loss and their flours are very calorie dense. Though they are delishous I stopped using them as they are easy to eat and packed on the pounds.

If you did well years ago but this time are not with the addition of the new foods I would take a week off all those foods and see what happens.

Could you eat avocado in the morning? Or some other protein? Many people eat a slice of deli meat or some left overs from last night. I eat half an avocado with celery. Deli meat goes wonderfully on a lettuce wrap with a sauce/ dressing of choice. Cold and crunchy.

Do you have any thyroid issues?
Soya milk not advisable nor half cooked veg.

I wouldn't regard 1lb as a weight gain over 10 days. I would regard it as "the same". No loss, no gain. We all vary by a few pounds during the course of a day.

Maybe keep an eye on your portion sizes - it's a fine balancing act getting the right balance of fats and proteins with low carb, and sometimes we can overdo things.

Hi :)

I wouldn't worry about the pound gain - that is the weight of a big cup of water, or a healthy bowel movement - so you could easily fluctuate that much on a daily basis. I actually fluctuate much more than that, but then I am obese and can fluctuate depending on water, salt, amount of food in transit, etc. etc. Sorry to be graphic, but it happens to us all, to some extent. Soya makes me retain water like crazy, which is weird, but always happens.

As for not losing, I would try cutting out all those lovely baked goods, nut flours and fancy twiddles. Cut back to completely non-processed low carb items and see what happens over a week or two. If you want to eat pre-prepared breakfast items, then make some egg and bacon and veg muffin things (basically omelettes baked in muffin cases), crustless quiche, or have ham and cheese, or yoghurt and berries.

I can remember reading a few posts by people saying that their LC weight loss was slow to start, but settled in nicely after a week or two, but I am afraid I can't remember the posters' names. My own weight loss was slow, then plateaued for about 18 months, then started slowly again, so I think we all vary, and low carbing isn't an automatic free pass to weight loss, so sometimes totting up the calorie intake can be quite enlightening. :)

The last person that came on here and asked an almost identical question said that he had been eating nuts because had heard they weren't a problem. Bit of a coinkydinky.

A couple of years ago the opposite happened. A woman was already thin and was still losing and asked how to stop it. I suggested she snack on nuts and it worked.

Hi Kirstin think Iwill do that cutout the nut flours, as checked the recipe and they are moderate carbs, Istruggle with breakfast, caneat toast easy, but getting up at 5.30 and leaving by 6.30its too early for me to face anything else, so may ust take some hard boild eggs for a little later may be the answer, not sure about advocado is that ok carb wise ?

What about a nice soft boiled egg for breakfast. (No soldiers though!!!) They take the same time as boiling a kettle, and follow this with coffee and cream. That lasts me all morning and I'm still not hungry at lunch time.

For me avocados are perfect. They are full of fat and almost all fiber. They keep me satisfied for hours and I was always a ravenous hungry person. In walked the avocado and I'm never ravenous, just normal hunger at normal meal times. I could easily skip lunch.

Are you testing your bs regularly?

Pulses send me sky high. In fact if I'm having a low I eat a tsp or two of hummus and I'm right back in place.

Taking a boiled egg is a great idea. Ditching the nut flours is even better!!

Sometimes, for some people it's better to have a few bites of something upon waking up to prevent a rise. Some of us spike in the morning without food. Another thing to test yourself for. You wouldn't have to eat a half of avocado. Just a wedge or two might do the trick. It is my bf so eat almost half of one. But that holds me from 8-3. Sometimes nutnot two or 2 olives in between.

Yes am testing bloods, lol bruised fingertips, blood sugars are always high in the morning, if up at 6am they will be around 7, later than that will go to0, but after this hike, if low carbing they are generally around 5 or 6 pre meal, and highest 7 after 2 hours for the rest of theday. just that blooming morning hike that I have never cured, and don't normally use pulses,

Yes test a lot when low carbing, always high first thing regardless, between 7 and 9, is usual, and then for the rest of the day after initial high, pre meal is between 5 and 7 and post meal no more than 7 or 7.5. going to try advocardo, don;t know why I thought they were a nono, and don't usually have pulses anyway, so here we go fresh start, thanks for you input x

If you can try eating something small and fatty as soon as you get up. Lots of times it stops or at least lowers the waking spike. Try an avocado slice, bulletproof coffee or just a few nuts. I have to eat right away. Just keep it very low carb if any. Fasting is much worse for me.
I don't do bullet proof coffee but it works for many.

All my meals have avocado. Then the the rest of it is some protein and a few low carb veggies. Simple as that. I used to cook fancy meals, use recipes etc Now the less time in the kitchen the better. I cook loads of proteins like turkey chicken salmon rare beef and lamb shrimp eggs in bulk. Then I freeze in my meal size portions in baggies. I have lots of options everyday. I defrost one in water for 15 min. Then I add avocado and either salad greens or some low carb veg and the meal is done. I do use olive oil and herbs as well for a variety of flavors. I always have canned tuna and salmon on hand as well as other fish.
Of course this could too boring for some but takes the anxiety out of eating for me. I found the portions of each macro at each meal that work for me and I stick to it. My meals are very tasty although redundant. But the flavors change with herbs and spices as well as the protein source and veggie choice. Keeps the food shopping easy too.

I used to make low carb treats but stopped as they were wild cards for bs and weight. I just keep it simple. Very low carb, moderate protein and just enough fat to satisfy.

How low carb are you trying to be? I'm under 20 a day but works for my weight and my tummy.

What is Bullit Coffee?? I am a coffee addict- is it just very strong coffee?,last time I did it a couple of years ago I went very low practically no carb, which is probably why I never maintained it, so this time aming to go low no more that 30 to 50 grams see how BS goes

Bullet proof coffee was"invented" by a guy called Dave Asprey who based it on the yak butter tea he had in I think Tibet, may have been Nepal.
It is coffee, butter and MCT oil (Mr Asprey sells his own brand something like brain octane). Personally I make coffee and add about 4 teaspoons of double cream and a couple of teaspoons of coconut oil. Mix it all together and drink. The fat content keeps you feeling full for ages so it can make a meal replacement. I usually have one mid morning while fasting. Only the cream has any carbs so it's very LCHF...

I think I would live BPC but I think it's just too Hugh in saturated fat for me and to my dismay coconut oil nauseates me. Too bad for me ...

I wonder if just half a tablespoon of butter would be enough. I suppose a tablespoon of mayo wouldn't work either. Oh, haha, not in the coffee, just on a spoon.

so Bulkbiker, could I use the Bullet Coffee a0 to help with early morning highs and also as a breakfast as i struggle inthe morning with breakfast ?
