since i started using glargine insulin in june this year i have put a stone on in weight an no matter how hard i have tried i cannot shift any of it.. is this common ans does anybody havw any ideas of what i can do to loose this. many thangs..

Hi. I know little about insulin but from postings on the forum can see that some GPs match insulin to existing carb intake rather than getting you to reduce carbs and hence reduce the insulin. Are you still low-carbing with the insulin? If not the insulin will convert the carbs you eat to energy/weight gain and the only way to reduce this is to reduce calorie intake and make the carbs high fibre and low GI. There may be alternative insulin regimes that could help so it might be worth posting on the Type 1 forum?

Insulin [any kind] is known to be a weight gain hormone. Perhaps you need to negotiate with your car team to use a smaller dose and lower carbs.
Most of the insulin users I know have weight issues. It's one of the reasons why I'm determined not to use it.

PS i have enough weight issues without that. I ate a few more carbs over the Christmas few days[Still remaining below about 50per day. My usual is Much less] I put on 2 Kg immediately. I've struggled hard and got rid of it. I would like to lose about another 15Kg, but that's a huge battle.carbs just have to look at me.

Glargine also know as Lantus, is know for it's weight gain problems..

Perhaps ask you team to swapped over to Levimer which is another type of background/long acting insulin, that doesn't seem to cause the same weight gain problems.

But you have also take in to account whether you lost any weight before going onto insulin, as it maybe that improving the control, it's the body returning back to it's natural weight!
