Hi,
I was diagnosed as T2 in Feb and have been losing weight ever since.
Started off at 10st, lost 8lb, ( was a bit off colour with water infection followed by abcess on tooth), and have been losing at a slower rate up till now, when I weigh 8st 10lb. Now I am aware that this is the silver lining to being diagnosed with diabetes,I love being size 12 again, but I don't want to end up too skinny. Any ideas anyone? I am on diet only, and my bs's are crazy too. Had a muffin for breakfast yesterday and 90 min after I was at 11.7. Half an hour later was at 5.6.The following day had the same again and had readings of 9.8 and 4.5 Is it worse to swing between 4.5 and 12 or to stay steady at 6 - 10? I have tried to make sense of my readings, but they don't seem to make any sense at all. No point in asking doc as she just say's wait till you have had a Hba1c in August, (I didn't even know I should have had one), but I want to know everything about two days ago. :?

Hi,Annie, well I'm not surprised your sugars went up like that after eating a muffin.Muffins are packed with simple sugars and these go into your blood stream very quickly.Carbs are divided into simple sugars and complex sugars. The simple sugars are absorbed very quickly and the complex sugars more slowly. If you read food labels anything with ' ose' or 'ol' on the end of it is usually a sugar.Better to have something in the morning that will be absorbed more slowly and keep your blood sugars more level. If you read the many threads on here about carbs you will get plenty of ideas.Congratulations on the weight loss.To not lose any more weight how about eating more protein and fats? These will help keep your blood sugars down and at the same time slow down weight loss, just don't overdo it.
