When my blood sugars don't behave!
I’m hoping I can get some advice/help from everyone.
I was diagnosed with type 1 in January 2020. Since then, I have found that weight has been creeping on - not drastic, just a pound or two every now and then.
I am getting married in August this year, and I got my dress in October. It fit perfectly and I loved it.

I went for a fitting/try on last week, and it was TIGHT. Basically, I’m stressing.

It’s made me realise I need to get a hold of this weight loss - and wanted to turn to my fellow type 1’s as I’m not sure how to approach it. I generally eat well and have a gym membership and go 3 times a week. I go for a walk everyday. I have a busy lifestyle with a 1 year old so .

My questions are
- did anyone else experience this issue when diagnosed?
- what was your best method for weight loss?
- did your methods of weight loss change after diagnosis

My side question is that I am getting a pump next month, will this affect my weight like my pens did ?
Thank you all so much for your help

Hello Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding! I was diagnosed 4 years ago type 1, I eat low carb so don’t over use insulin however whenever I am ill and have to take more insulin to counteract high BG and ketones and I put weight on and find it very difficult to lose those pounds again afterwards. I recently spoke with a very helpful nutritionist who specialises in diabetes and she recommended increasing the amount of exercise you personally do each day by 20%
If you try this and it works let me know! I am quite a bit older than you and have a torn hip cartilage which becomes very painful after a couple of weeks when I increase my exercise, I have lost a couple of pounds doing this on and off due to being a bit restricted by my hip problem.
I too will be very interested in any other ideas anybody posts.

Thank you !
Yes - I’ve definitely made that connection too! It’s very different from my first time being poorly when I lost 1.5 stone (when first diagnosed)…. Now I usually put half a stone on! ‍♀️

I’m going to try cutting down my carbs this week and upping the exercise as you suggested. I’ll update you!
It’ll be good to see people different experiences and viewpoints

Hello! I'm going to get married too in 2 months and also nervous. My situation is a bit contrary, I'm losing weight. But I have some tips for you.
The general rule for healthy weight loss is to aim for A MAX of 1-2 lbs. per week. Because changing caloric intake and workout routines may require a reduction of insulin. Be careful! (I took it from a scientific article) I can't advise you eating habits, because they can be unhealthy for you, I think you should find a good nutritionist.
As for sport, I went jogging and cycling, but I felt unwell (you know nausea and dizziness), I needed to sit down, drink water or take an insulin injection (but sometimes there was no place where I could do it). My husband offered me to order a treadmill to our house, I chose one here https://houseandbeyond.org/best-compact-treadmill/ and I train 4 times a week, very pleased with my body and if I need to stop and sit down, I can do it anytime
I wish you good luck, happy wedding day! I believe your dress will be perfect for you that day
