Weight loss???

Hi I wondered if someone could possibly give me some advice? I will try and keep this short!. After a blood test at my GP's back in January I was advised that I am borderline pre-diabetic. I was told my HbA1C was in the "at risk" category of between 42 - 47mmol/mol. Mine was 42. I must admit it came as quite a shock, I have no history of diabetes in the family and I am of a slim build. My only weakness is chocolate!! Yes I did but (not now) eat perhaps too much!!
My diabetic nurse discussed my diet and I was advised that I appear to have a healthy diet and mainly to cut out my sugar cravings, chocolate, biscuits etc. An occasional treat being ok. I have took her advice and carried on as normal with my diet cutting out my sugary treats., (the odd one occasionally).
I have noticed over the last few weeks I have been losing weight - which I must admit is unusual for me. I have always been a healthy 8st 5, but now weigh in at 7st 9. My loss mainly appears to be to my chest, thighs and face. I wondered if this is normal to loose this much weight in such a short period of time?? Also with me being only slim to start with I really don't want to be loosing weight as I already feel that I'm getting too thin. I was thinking of going back to my GP to discuss this matter but thought I would see if this has happened to anyone else?
Apologies for rabbiting on but I wanted to try and give as much info as possible. I really don't know who to turn to
I'm in my early 40's
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you x

Hi @Rach2018 If you have cut out all your chocolate and sugary treats you will have lost a lot of calories which probably explains your weight loss. You could replace those calories with some non sugary good things like avocado, cheese and nuts and see if that helps stabilise your weight ?
I'll tag @daisy1 who will post some useful advice for the newly diagnosed.
If the weight loss does continue then do go back to your GP or nurse.

Hi,

I agree. Cutting out all the sugary stuff will have created a loss in calories. Fats don't raise blood sugar levels, so perhaps add some lovely real fats back, and this can include dairy. (butter, full fat yogurts, cream, cheese), plenty of eggs, plus the aforementioned avocado and nuts. If you are eating low fat products, consider changing them for the real thing.

Wow. Weird thing is that we posted similar things except a few hours apart, although mine was based on a different main question. I’m 41 and weight has gone down from 8stone 2 lbs to 7 stone 6 lbs in the last two months as I changed my diet two months ago to very low carbs/nothing sugary at all, but losing weight was not my intention at all. I’ve realised I haven’t replaced the things I took out of my diet sufficiently with other stuff. Never before in my life have I faced the idea that I’m not eating enough

Welcome! And yes I’d been panicking too as I was scared that losing weight was a symptom of symptom of something. But I think it’s a symptom of food in vs food used out.

I must confess to having stopped my weightloss during the time I was seeing the diabetes education team - purely to confuse them as they were so adamant that I needed to lose weight to see any improvement in my blood glucose.
I can be quite wicked at times.
When I first went onto Atkins I lost 7 lb in three days, so it is very easy to lose weight. Adding oil and vinegar dressing to salads, mayonnaise to eggs and cheese, creamy coleslaw, deserts of real custard with berries and sugar free jelly - or real icecream made with eggs and cream - my grandmother used to make it for sale and it was prescribed for children whe failed to thrive.
