Hi
I have been lurking here for a just over a fortnight since I was diagnosed with t2. I was given NO information by my doctor, just a prescription for metaformin (3 x 500 mg per day) and Stagliptin (1 x 50 mg per day) and ushered out of the door. I found this forum on day one (absolutely fantastic, thank you, thank you) and changed my diet to LCHF the next day. I bought a code free monitor and started to see what was going on.
My BG was originally 19, and is now down to between 5 and 8 all of the time (rarely touching 8 in fact) which I am very happy with. I have cut out all the main carbs (no bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, carrots, sugar etc) and it has suited me very well. I feel more energetic and don't fall asleep after meals any more!
A typical day for me would be:
Breakfast: Set yogurt (not diet), a tablespoon of cream and mixed berries
Lunch: Tuna mayonnaise or meat, tomatoes, cucumber and some cheese
Tea: A home cooked meal (I'm cooking for 3 others) with the carbs removed for me - so chicken tikka masala without the rice (discovered cauliflower rice), shepherd's pie minus the potatoes, quiche without the pastry, meat and veg without potatoes etc.
Snacks: Nuts, cheese, coffee with cream
I particularly wanted to do this without counting or fussing, which is why the LCHF diet attracted me (that and the fact that it totally makes sense to me that if my body can't deal with carbs then I should just cut them out). I need to lose maybe 2 stone and whilst my primary concern is getting my blood sugar down and keeping it that way I am looking forward to losing some weight as a byproduct and know that this will help my BG also.
The first week I lost 5 lbs straight off. For the past week the scales have not moved at all. Am I being too impatient or am I doing something wrong do you think? I keep telling myself that with the changes that I have made the weight must follow, and my body will adjust and I'll start losing again, but day to day I don't feel so confident. Can someone who has been here give me a virtual clip around the ear and tell me to pull myself together and not be so impatient, or should I make some other changes? I'm also wondering if I am eating enough. I'm eating much less than previously - the metaformin sees to that!
Thanks in advance for any advice
