Hello everyone.

I am currently helping my mum with her type 2 diabetes. After being put onto insulin a year and half agon she has put on over a stone in wieght. She is classed in the obese range. She is 54, 5ft 4 and about 134st 6lb. She is trying really hard to watch her diet and has started to do some exercising which she has neve done before. After two weeks she has only lost 1lb. Can anybody tell me if taking insuling makes a different to the amount/speed of weight loss?

Also, if she was able to get her weight under control along with her blood sugars would it be possible longet term for her to come off insulin.

thanks for any help in advace.

hi cgod im only going by my own experience i was put on insulin 3 yrs ago (nova rapid and levemir) my weight zoomed up by 4 st whilst i was on it even with all dieting and excercise iwould only loose a 1pd or 2 discussed this with my diabetic nurse and she agreed insulin was not helping my weight so took me off insulin and put me on byetta 5 weeks on it now i have lost 1st 6 pds in that time but as i say thats my own experience i dont know if everybody is the same bye for now

That's really useful, I think she might be in a similar position.

She is going to continue what she is doing now for another 6-8 weeks, see what happens and then go and see her diabetic nurse if it isn't working.
Thanks

hi can anyone help me about the gi diet i have been on different sites but i keep on getting put on to registering with companys wanting me to subscribe i dont want that i would be grateful if anyone can let me know what basic foods it includes and any sample of meals thankyou

Hi candyog.

Here is the link to a website with some basic info about GI foods for starters. I used this to work out menu's for myself.

http://www.glycaemicindex.com/

Tesco do one which may be suitable.
http://www.tescodiets.com/diet-plans/gi-plan/350175/17/

http://www.carbs-information.com/gi-diet-plan.htm

http://www.lowcarbiseasy.com/dietplanlowgi.htm more basic information.

Both the Tesco and the other link are to PAYG sites but there is some information there which can be helpful. I personally tailored my own menu's to suit me at no cost.
