I am sick to death with Diabetes UK going on about obese and overweight people with Diabetes. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes last July and since then have lost weight because I am controlling my diabetes with diet at the moment and the nurse is well pleased with the results - HBA1C - 46 in January. She is not worried about the weight loss, but I am just wondered what I can eat to help me to gain a few pounds instead of losing weight. My legs especially have got very thin. My present weight is 8st 5lbs and I am 5'4" tall. Thank you

While your present weight is fine (I'm a similar height & a bit lighter) I feel your pain re: skinny legs. I managed to halt the unwanted weight loss by adding more nuts & cheese to my diet. Upping my lower body (weight bearing) strength training & upping the gears on my bike training helped bring the shape back to my legs.

Rather than going from losing, directly to gaining, I would urge you to train maintaining your weight first, or there is a danger of setting up a yo-yo effect. Lose, gain, lose, gain, which isn't healthy in itself. At a BMI of 20, you have 7lbs before heading into an underweight category.

Try doing some additional exercise to build some muscle tone. That would really help.
