weight training hurting hands any advice?

I've started doing Bodypump twice a week but today with an increase in my weights felt my hands struggle and they're still aching 2 hours after class. I'm female, 50 yrs old had type 1 for 33 years all ok. But I've had carpel tunnel 10 years ago and also got trigger fingers which resulted in two little op's on my thumbs through trying to train in gym 3 yrs ago. So I don't want to damage myself again . Question: any advice on how to do strength training and anaerobic exercise without having to grab and grip equipment as I don't think my hands can take it. Ta :)
 
you could Work with those big elastic bands and use them over your hands instead of grabbing around them...

like in this video but on your arms
