Can anyone advise me on my weight?

I'm 5'6" and have always been thin but about a year ago I was 9st10lbs up from 8st4lbs a decade ago. I didn't like where the extra weight was accumulating around my 'apron' area and have gradually been losing weight. When I was diagnosed with T2 in March I started reducing carbs and fasted occasionally and more recently have drastically reduced carbs and the weight is dropping off more quickly and have got down to 8st7lbs.

I'm wondering what weight to aim for. If I want to stabilise at my current weight should I increase carbs. As an aside, I've ordered a meter but it hasn't arrived yet so not sure which carbs suit me. My carb consumption recently has been 50g per day as opposed to 150g per day a year ago, I've used fitness pal on and off over the years so have some data to go on. I wonder if I should do some specific muscle building exercise - however I'm in my 60s and wonder if that ship has sailed!

It is never too late to reap the benefits of muscle building!

Goodness, I sound like a gym goer, and I assure you I am not. lol. But even in my own sedentary life I can feel the benefits of improving posture, core strength, etc. etc. and added muscle helps tremendously with blood glucose control.

I saw a fascinating vid on this subject a while back. I will have a look for it.

Re halting the weight loss, I would start by increasing protein a bit, possibly in the form of nuts, cheese, that kind of thing. But as a pre-diabetic, you may find that you have greater leeway with carbs, in which case, I would make the most of it! :)

We recently joined our local gym in Worthing and I was quite surprised by the number of slightly older women there doing weights along side the (as my trainer described them) 'roid boys. It makes for a very nice atmosphere.

Ah thanks for that. Also I'm T2 although in my arrogance when first diagnosed I presumed prediabetic until I had the full results through! Have tried change that status but doesn't appear to have worked.

Hmmm bulkbiker, never been comfortable going to gyms so going to work on exercise at home and see how it goes. Walking is more my thing.

You could buy yourself some lady weights for the home. Do you do aerobics at home? Or walking your only exercise, currently?

Hi Ickihun. I do a bit of swimming but currently have ear problems so avoiding at the mo. I was thinking of weights but not sure what to start with.

Also have mild osteoarthritis and one hip complains if I do too much impact type activities. For example, I have a rebounder but find it causes hip pain.

If you visited a good gym they would take everything into consideration.
I'm having breathing and walking problems so I do stretches and light dum bells with as much walking as the painkiller suppressed bulging disc and scatica allows. Awaiting too to return to swimming. I really miss it.
The gym assistant can give you the right exercise, for you.

Hi. You're doing all the right things. In general I would say don't increase the carbs to start with but ensure you have enough proteins and fats. If you still want to increase your weight after that then do increase the carbs a bit. I would go for low-GI carbs such as beans and pulses which also have fibre rather than empty carbs made from refined flour.
