Weird...or normal??

Hi guys sorry to post so late but Ive just ha an "experience" and was curious about it... Here goes...

So im lying in bed, minding my own business, you know watching tv and chilling...when i suddenly get the feeling like Im on a rollercoaster, you know like an adrenaline rush...check my sugar coz im thinking "oh no hypo!" and my sugar was 15!! When id checked about half hour before and it was 5.something! I know adtenaline "rushes" usually do raise the BG, but does anyone else get adrenaline surges for no apparent reason??

Am just looking for an explanation and whether or not this is normal...so any reply would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance! :D

Hi there, I have exactly the same several times a day,I dont think its adrenalin but rather a fast rise in blood sugar.I also go very low too, so when I have something to put it up I can feel my sugar rising literally, its like someones given me a Pethidine injection, my hearts racing and my head spins and a weird feeling in the stomach as you said like being on a rollercoaster. It happens to me while running to making me feel drunk as I run.An example, say my glucose is 6mmol before food, it will rise to say 13.8 mmol in half an hour, talk about a head rush!Do you have this often? How long before had you eaten? x

Not really no...sometimes it happena middle of the day, before or after eating...mainly when im not doing anything though... Its been happening for a while but thought it might be something to do with the diabetes...confused really lol

Hi try checking your glucose before eating, 1hr after, the 2 hrs after for a couple of days, see if you are having rapid rises in sugar, low blood sugar also causes a very weird feeling too, so maybe you are swinging low to high, the high to low x

Yes let us know how you get along. Also ask your doctor/nurse for a meter and strips (will save you a fortune if they will give them). My nurse has given me both after I broke mine, she said I have to have one if I get Low blood sugar x

Hi Emzie
What you describe are just like the Adrenaline rushes I was getting when my Adrenals were very fatigued..I was very poorly and was being tested for Addisons. My Thyroid was also very under active at the time...I used to just be sat there, and like you say it was like being on the steepest drop of a roller coaster just out of the blue .Total heart pounding adrenaline rush out of nowhere with normal blood sugars  At the time this was along with super low blood pressure it was very scary.I'm now on Thyroid meds ,and stable..my Adrenals are OK for now :| but these "rushes" have stopped. I have never had any sort of panic attacks ect, so these were so freaky and out of the blue ,just as you describe.
I would certainly go and see your Endo about this and not just put it down to your Diabetes, if your BG is normal and it carries on it should certainly be looked at. It may just be one of those things and go  ..as these things tend to sometimes. If not get a full blood work done, and see what is going on as it is not a normal Diabetic side effect.
Good luck Hun.

I have these adrenalin rushes too, and seemingly for no reason.

I can get them any time, and I had one earlier in the day today, and again tonight. I've had them for a long time now. My doctor did a blood test for cortisone, and the results were that my cortisone amounts were 'the wrong way round'. The lab had put 'Slight Addisons'.

Went to see a endocrinologist and had another test done but he said it was normal. I would have preferred a follow up test say 6 months on but I never got one.

Helena.
