I got diagnosed type-2 last week, and had my first dose of metformin yesterday night. I didn't think much about it earlier when I drank it (completely on autopilot) but does anybody know if there's any reason why a Berrocca (the fizzy kind) each day should be a problem?

Thx

Dave

I cannot tolerate any fruit juice or acidic foods. With or without metformin. Maybe you carnt now either. I'm a great believer in too much fruit doesn't help fatty liver disease.

I lived on berrocca for weeks, then suddenly it started to irratate my stomach, so I had to stop, I can't even swallow it now, it just comes straight back up.

Well, unless you REALLY like having luminous urine, which is admittedly kind of cool (if there's anyone else around to see it) and having loads of vitamins in your pee.

I take them as I find the vitamin b helps with some joint pain, but actually find that I feel better throughout the day as well. Might be a psychosomatic thing. I just don't see the need for a sarcastic comment on someone else's brand-choice of multivitamin - especially on a forum that's meant to be about support..

Hi @DavidW82 Bad luck on your diagnosis. Welcome to the forum :) If you are on metformin for a long time it can interfere with your B12 so it is certainly something to keep an eye on. I haven't tried the Berrocca myself, but take a sublingual B12 tab a day. Do you have a meter yet to test your blood glucose levels throughout the day?

I remember that happening when a friend of mine said to try it after a heavy nights drinking at a bbq. Scared the hell out of me that colour green.:D

Thanks - that's useful to know, definitely will discuss with the doctor or nurse in due course. I don't have a meter yet as the doctor said that it wasn't needed yet, so didn't prescribe one; though having read the information from the forum moderator, I might broach the subject again as I'd almost made up my mind to buy one anyway..

A lot of doctors say that testing is not necessary for type 2s so wont prescribe meters and strips. It seems to be a postcode lottery. I buy my own as I think it essential piece of kit. You might be lucky though. If you don't ask, you don't get. All the best.

I appreciate they're not for everyone - I just happen to find it easier than taking one pill for zinc, another for Vitamin b and so on, and accept it might be a few quid more..

Lots of us supplement, either as a precautionary measure, or because we feel better for it. :) it works for me too.

Many here take supplements of different kinds because they feel they help so if Berrocca works for you then that's good
