Thank you for the reply i was thinking of having vodka and a diet spirit or a bitter beerType 1 diabetes does not stop you drinking.
However, there are a few things to consider
- most longer drinks such as beer and cider contain carbs (typically between 15 and 20g carbs per pint)
- if you have a spirit with a mixer, the mixer is likely to have carbs in it (unless you go for diet)
- wine is relatively low carb (about 3g per glass)
- when you have been drinking, your liver does not like the alcohol so will concentrate its efforts on getting rid of it whilst not releasing as much glucose into your body. As a result, you may hypo over the next 24 hours. The risk of this is reduced if you have some carbs (without insulin) before you go to bed. Something like a slice of toast or two.
- sometimes, a person having a hypo can look like a drunk person. As a result, your mates may think you are drunk when you are hypo. It may be a good idea to mention this to one or two of your pals just in case.
Typically, I drink beer and wine.
I never inject for wine.
For beer, I inject for the first couple of pints (I drink them by the halves) and then, knowing what my liver will be doing later, don't bother if I drink any more.
This will vary depending on how much alcohol you are used to drinking.
Diabetes shouldn't stop you having a good night.
I can't be as confident about the England team!
Whatever you choose, test a lot in the hours after! Cheers!Thank you for the reply i was thinking of having vodka and a diet spirit or a bitter beer
And did you have a fun night? Not unimportant as well!@Pj1996 How do you manage after your "FEW" drinks? What did you have and what were your BG's like afterwards??
Its today that i am drinking i have had 3 vodkas no change in BG so far so ill see how i get on and let you knowAnd did you have a fun night? Not unimportant as well!
Have fun than! Wodka without sugary mixer won't affect your bg at first but it might make you go lower later on in the evening or even after you've gone to bed. Eat some slow acting carbs (slice of bread, burger, slice of pizza or so) before sleeping. In my experience that works a lot better than something sugary, as that will be out of your system quicker making you hypo in the night, and you'll want to eat something to get you through the night. Its today that i am drinking i have had 3 vodkas no change in BG so far so ill see how i get on and let you know![]()

Should you wake up too high, you'll know to eat less before bed or take a little insulin with it next time.
Cheers!
