Hi All,
I was diagnosed just over a month ago with type 2 diabetes, and was put on Metformin (2000mg a day), then when i see the diabetic nurse she said i would need insulin also (which refused) - I have made an agreement with her that if my readings are not improved by my next visit i would go on insulin.
My fasting readings had been as high as 19.6 and i spent most my time in the mid twenties.
I am very over weight (25 stone) and after reading this forum i knew that doing a very low carb diet would suite me well, bring down my sugars and help me lose weight. I have spent HOURS researching diabetes and the low carb diet. I was that convinced that i could do this, that i havent bothered with my medication.
So i have been doing the low carb diet for about 4 weeks.... I have had one slip up on the second weekend of the diet but started again on the monday.
I am eating mainly tuna salads, bacon, eggs, (decent) sausages, meat and veg. I have done, as far as i can tell very well, and i know i haven't cheated. I check the label on EVERYTHING i see, and i use an app on my phone to keep track of my carbs.
Even if i wasnt doing it 100% right, the amount of rubbish i have cut out of my diet and all the healthy food i am now having, i would have thought i would lose some weight... I am a 30 year old man, at 25 stone eating less than 20g of carbs a day.. the fat should be falling off me!
But every time i weigh myself i am always between 24st 10lb to 25st 1lb... Its driving me crazy. I am also still craving carbs after all this time to.
The only plus side to all this, is after 4 weeks my blood sugar levels are around 7.2 two hours after any meal. (A little higher first thing in the morning tho....) I am sooo pleased that my sugars are so good, but i am just disapointed i am not loosing the weight
Am i doing something wrong??
Thanks
Big Jim
