my complete lack of motivation about anything.
So, i recently posted a topic talking about how my gp won't give me testing kit, i ordered a free one online and received it today.

At 5pm back from work (i work in a jam factory lol, so i'm standing and working all day at machines and whatnot). Anyway 5pm i checked my sugar and it was 5.0

Then i ate:
scampi and chips (oven),
home made jelly, a spoon of vanilla ice cream and a few blueberries.
a banana.
a milkybar

Not all at once lol. (no lectures on eating unhealthily please, i wanted to have stuff which i may have eaten before i knew i had diabetes).

Checked my sugar at about 8.30pm and it's at 8.4.

The testing kit booklet said it's high if it's 13 or over. and low if it's 3.3 and under. (something like that)

so does that mean, wether i'm at 5 or 8 i'm still good? What should i be aiming for?, 8 is in the middle...

Here are the 2009 guideline figures for Bg levels for a T2 Diabetic.
Fasting (waking)..............between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals.............no more than 8.5 mmol/l.
If you are able to get those post meal numbers lower so much the better. Anything below 4 mmol/l is considered hypo territory and not recommended !

Looking at your food that was eaten, it depends on when you finished eating as to what your Bg levels were doing. You could even have been still on the way up at 8.30pm ? You need to test a bit more often. 13 mmol/l is very high....

thanks for that, see with this free meter i got online, i only get 10 strips, i'm probably going to try and nab some off my temporary doctor (living elsewhere for the summer) or just purchase more because i feel right now i should be testing a lot more.

Yeah 13 sounds like a hell of a lot to me, i remember sometimes when my mum/dad/granparents used to check theirs they were crazy high like 20 or something, although they're all T1...still not good though, plus they ate what they wanted and have all had heart attacks and ops and stuff.fun and games.

Anyway, i know what to aim for now, thanks :D I'll probably still ask my gp, no doubt he'll just go on the internet and print out something.

by the way, does feeling sleepy mean i'm high or low?

Feeling sleepy could actually be both, high or low ??? Testing is the only way to tell.

As all your relations appear to be T1's is the GP sure that you are a T2 as in your profile ? Seems a little odd ?

I would give a tighter definition of normal blood glucose than the official one for diabetics.
It's known tyhat non-diabetic bg doesn't ary by much. It stays close to4.7 petty much all the time. If it does move away from there, it goes back very quickly. Probably within 2 hours.
For getting strips, the best price is usually direct from the supplier. Don't forget to remind them you are VAT exempt on Diabetes supplies.

I question it myself sometimes, but i think i would have known by now, no?

I mean about 4 years ago was when i started getting more noticable symptoms ie yeast infection, sleepiness, feeling shaky/weak etc. but as i've started watching what i eat and being more active and taking metformin the symptoms are much less. (although i haven't lost a significant amount of weight).

I just remember being told that my pancreas doesn't work properly, doesn't produce insulin properly, and when i asked what type his exact words were 'we're pretty sure you're type 2'.

Anyway, i'm still unsure and i'm just working with what i can, i've never taken proper care of my body and my weight is always up and down from PCOS, eating disorder (being underweight), and other things. But i've never fainted due to diabetes, only ever feeling shaky or that i'm about to faint. And also the symptoms of t1 and t2 can be similar can't they.

I think as you are not really sure yourself I would ask for a second opinion, a referral to an Endocrinologist. With all the other problems, PCOS etc this would be the best route to follow to confirm the diagnosis. There are tests which will confirm one way or the other if it is T1 or T2. at least then there would be no confusion about it ? Put your mind at rest.

If Metformin helps you, you are almost certainly T2. It doesn't help most T1s
