What are your ideal figures?

I know the NICE guidelines for type 2 are on waking below '7' and no more than '8.5' 2 hours after a meal but what are your goal figures? I have got down to just within the guidelines but feel I would like to go lower but am not sure how low I should aim to get a low Hba1c.

Waking / fasting between 5 - 6 and no more than 7 at any time.......get the odd 'blip' but what the hell.......it's working well for me.

I am aiming for an HbA1c of 5% - a nice round figure. My last HbA1c was 5.1 but I'm pretty sure it will be higher this time :( I had a month without Metformin and that put my levels up (and my weight :( :( ) I hope to see fasting below 6 and around 5 if I'm lucky. 2 hours after meals around or below 7 if I am careful what I eat.

I aim for 4s pretty much all the time and never over 6. I do slip up occasionally, but it's always my own fault. Currently I haven't been over 6 for at least 3 months.

i pretty much eliminate visible carbs from my diet. It can be hard, but I's worth it.

How on earth do you lot manage to get such low figures???? seriously how do you do it, i thought i was doing well getting a 7.3 hba1c from 7.7 3 months ago.

You are doing well Petal !

The others have been low carbing for a while now. Just stick to what you are doing and your numbers will keep on dropping as well.

THanks for your support sugarless sue, I know i'm on the right track but get disheartened sometimes, i know bg won't go down without putting in the effort.

As mentioned by others, carbs seem to be the key Petal.

Getting used to having very little is tricky at first but one soon gets used to it (as much as you can).

What I've noticed is that I simply do not eat out at all these days. I sort of have a rough idea of what I'll be eating over the next few days.

I introduced a lot of Broccoli into the diet, the only fruit I usually eat is half a grapefruit on an empty stomach (any more and my figures fly up in the 8/9 zone).

I experiment with herbal remedies (check with your doc before you do!).

It really is a complete lifestyle change.

As much as it seems impossible at first (and believe you me - IT DOES!), it is amazing what a human can become accustomed to, once they commit to change. Or are forced to as we are. lol

My current ideal figures are a bit higher than others . I'm happy to be on the better side of 6 on waking (sometimes I'm in the high 6s, which I don't really like). Post meal I do not like to go above 8, but occasionally do.

I'm not testing myself as much as I did these days (financial constraints) so I'll only know how I'm really doing at my next hba1c in about 6 months. I'm starting to test myself only every 2/3 days on waking now.

I've also cut out starchy carbs from my diet and up to now have lost 7 stone  and no longer need to take insulin or Byetta really. My BM's never go above 5. They can go as low as 2.6, before I get any hypo symptoms. And despite others here saying it's dangerous, I have been told that as long as I DO get hypo symptoms it doesn't really matter - as long as it works for me. My last HbA1c was 5.5, down from 7.2 4 months earlier. So we're all different; what works for one doesn't necessarily work for someone else. And that's how it should be - what a boring world it would be if we were all the same eh?? :D :D
