being a diabetic and finding restrictions.to life style. people who do not understand the problems one has. not being able to afford to come back to uk for holidays as often, quite expensive. miss some foods that the French do not do. but can live with that French drivers. who love to tail gate. and they love to drive over the white line. in rural areas they are a pain. but get use to it. does put the wind up you. But driving in the UK found that drivers want to get as close as they can. and the traffic. it took me 25 minutes to get to friends house which was less then a mile away. due to traffic.
I always have to wear glasses. both reading and driving, w
wondering how you all are coping with your vision. Over here have to go once a year for eye tests. had two so far. they said my vision for driving no change. but just close work changed..
I do find that when on the computer or watching TV I use the distance for TV and reading when using the computer.
I am due over in the UK next month. so will be driving thru France takes about 7 hours or so .Should not be a problem as stop quite a bit
How do other people cope.!!!
would love to here your comments about your eyes and if they are worse or better.
Not spoken about eyes much and would like to know if there are any things that improves eye sight
Would be a disaster to find vision is impaired so that unable to drive as I live rural. and need to be able to get out. If I did not I would become hermit.as access is not available over here. and it would mean me having to ask for help.
At the moment it is not a problem eyes ok.

I can tell the difference when my blood sugars are out of control - get blurred vision etc. I have problem eyes anyway so have to be careful. As long as my blood sugars are under control and I have my glasses I am fine. Background retinopathy but after 16 years to be expected.

I also know when my sugar levels are high as I get very blurred vision and because of this I have stopped driving. I. Stopped driving because my vision went very blurred when driving and didn't want to cause an. Accident or even be in one but I use to love my driving its the one thing I had left that kept me if ya like ' normal' I now have to rely on others as my vision just goes too bad to drive myself.

Hi, Just returned from Dr. all seems to be ok. now have appointment for eye hospital in July. so will find out if I have improved. I do find that at times I try to not use my glasses. trying to make them stronger. I do not have a problem driving. I rarely get blurred vision. sometimes my eyes get tired. then I stop doing the computer etc. use eye drops just to flush them out.

This Doctor makes all the appointments for me. It is part of his job, which is brilliant. He just does it. checks when I have been to last appointment. and renews for me. not that I have asked for this he just does it. I have every confidence in my Doctor He speaks a little English so we are able to communicate quite well. He has a sense of humour. which helps. I see him at 10 am and come away at 11.35.am feeling that he has done all he can Over here they do not just have a 10 min interview/appointment it takes as long as it takes. that is there motto. He works hard. but would not change him.
I have had to renew my machine for daily blood sugar. free. Just that he said one of the readings was 22 so should be dead. But he just gives me a new prescription for it. Do you get them free now in the UK.................... Very happy bunny today

Blurry vision has made me virtually housebound for the last about 18 months. I have a car but have had to let someone else use it to keep it from seizing up. The last time I drove I found judging distances difficult so had to get home driving really slowly as had to get home with my dogs. The last time I tried to drive, before I got going I reversed into a lamp post and smashed the lights ad bumper on the one side of my car. I haven't been able to get to medical appointments and after 4 months finally found someone to drive me to my first diabetic eye scan on the 29th. I can't travel on public transport for other reasons so I am stuck and isolated. I also have developed cataracts so maybe when they are sorted things will be better?? I miss steps when using stairs at times and don't feel safe cooking. My eye problems started about 18 months before I was diagnosed but it was fatigue which caused me to go to see dr and then I was diagnosed with diabetes. Sometimes I can see clearly and itt builds my hopes up but the fogginess will return. My BG levels I keep to as near to non diabetic as possible. The only thing which MAY be detrimental is that I can't tolerate Metformin SR because they make me feel so ill. This is no life for me and I often wish I didn't wake up in the morning, which is horrible to say. I just don't know what to do to help myself.
Hope I haven't depressed anyone, but I just don't have a life anymore.

:watching: They get a bit sore from time to time (using the Computer to much) Out of all the senses sight is the one thing I am scared of losing. Luckily up to now my eyes are fine.
My remedy is a tip from Welders when I worked in Engineering. 2 warm Teabags places on your eyes relieves and refreshes your eyes.
