What can I do with surplus/spare kit ?

Just wondering if there are any charities/organisations out there who would take spare kit ?

I have testing strips still in date for a meter I no longer use and would like to give them to someone who can use them - I know the NHS wont have them back but is there an organisation I can pass them onto so that someone who doesnt get free kit or have access to can use it - i'm sure there's people out there who would be over the moon to get it.

I have about 3 spare meters, I keep them as back ups & have them all over the house. Great also if you go away. I don't think places take back anything like that. Maybe contact the manufacturer, don't know how I'd feel to get a 2nd hand BG monitor.

I bet there are a lot of people who would love a second hand monitor. As long as the strips are sealed. I think it's a good idea. I have spare kit too. Much of it sealed. Most have been given incorrectly by chemist, lancets etc. Even sealed, they will just destroy them. Seems such a shame.

I've about four spare monitors, one of which is still sitting brand new sealed in the box. I only want to hang on to two of them, the others I'd happily give to a charity. Perhaps there is one to help diabetics in less well off countries?
 
I really think that there is a good opportunity here to help those either in this country or abroad who dont have access to free kit to send spare meters/test strips etc. I would welcome more feedback on this, but cannot see any organisations who would take equipment - if anyone knows an organisation then let me know. I certainly feel that Diabetes has made me more self obsessed so would like to try and help others in a less fortunate position.

Thanks for this; I'll be checking my emergency supplies more frequently and ensure I send appropriate items to them.

If there are any oldies out there (like me) who have old diabetes equipment they no longer want to keep in the attic / garden shed, please see my post "Old diabetes equipment"...

In particular, I'm seeking an original Novopen and the first lancet device: Owen Mumford's "Autolet" (I used them, so can speak about their impact with passion). However, any older devices (from the 1970's and 1980's will be of interest - particularly if you are willing to be contacted by me to get the story on its use and value to you as a diabetic!
 
ConradJ - I have an original NovoPen if you want it... where the cap became the plunger and took 1.5ml carts

With the way things are going with teststrip prescriptions, I would hang on to the spare meter and strips as you never know, you might run out one day and will be relieved to have a spare meter that you can use...

Not sure hanging onto equipment because something might happen with prescriptionstest strip prescriptions is such a wise idea, all strips have an expiry and if i'm unlikely to use it would much rather post it on.

We are incredibly lucky to live in a society where we do have access to kit that helps us manage our diabetes - if it was 50+ years ago or a third world country we wouldn't be so lucky - so having the opportunity to pass it on to those less fortunate is wonderful, more so if they are youngsters, so it's really worth doing what you can - i'm clearing out my diabetes drawers !! (excuse the pun..)!
