I had a blood test for my HbA1c a week before my first nurse visit. Thats all. Nothing else.

The leaflet she gave me yesterday from DiabetesUK says I should have kidney function test too, and urine test.

another nurse (friend of a friend) say she orders full blood test, all of the above, fasting cholesterol, and liver function test.

what should I be asking to have done? I am in Wales and there is nil chance of seeing a different nurse.

I will be having another HbA1c test and non-fasting cholesterol test a week before I next see this nurse, in three months time.

I feel a bit worried.

Hi. I would ask for a urine test and a fuller blood test for your next visit. You should be given these at least annually. If your HBa1C is fairly good then the other tests become less important. Fasting tests are no longer used for the Hba1C and the cholesterol figures are less reliable as a result. When discussing any cholesterol figures, ask for the HDL, LDL and Trigs breakdown and ratios as the total figure is largely irrelevant.
