Hi All
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in Late December 2018 with a blood sugar reading of 79, after 5 months another reading was 56 and last week another test showed it to be down to 35.
I am taking Metformin twice a day and my weight has gone from 93 Kg to a steady 82 Kg (did go down to 78 Kg at one point).
What I don't understand is what these readings mean and am I now low enough to stop taking the Metformin.
I read on the internet about readings of 5.5 to 6.5 %, how does this relate to my readings and what does it all mean.
I am really confused about this and it is causing some degree of stress not knowing what is what.
Can someone explain what this all means in easy to understand way.
Many thanks, Regards Martyn10

This chart might help, the top scales are the alternate methods of expressing HbA1c ( an indicator of your last 2-3 month average blood glucose level). The bottom scale shows how it relates to average blood glucose level from finger prick tests.

Hi and welcome Martin
You need to use this converter
https://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-to-blood-sugar-level-converter.html

Your 79 mmol/m translates to 9.4%
56 mmol/m translates to 7.3%
35 mmol/m translates to 5.4% which is far and away the best and in the non -diabetic range.

anything over 48 mmol/m is classed as T2
42-47 is "pre- diabetes"
under 42 is "normal"

If you have a read here it explains how many of us have put our T2 into remission using a low carb way of eating.
