What do these BG figures mean?

Guzzler you are so right. But my GP didn’t even send me on further tests!

Then it is up to you to set the record straight. There is in my opinion no possible way that a GP would not use at least first line medication on a patient with an A1c of 105. No way. There may even be a possible link to the AFIB with a result so high, have you thought about that?

Treatment and advice is reliant on test results. It seems ovious to me given my limited knowledge and seeing your bg levels now that the 105 was wrong.

I have seen it but not comfortable sending my blood off in the post

You don't send your blood anywhere. It is very similar to a normal finger prick. You put the blood drop in a reader and after 5 minutes it gives you the HbA1c. Very simple providing you follow the instructions to the letter.

So get back in touch and demand explanations and copies of lab results and if it’s still unclear demand a restest to clarify. Do not leave your health in limbo. Drs make mistakes they are just people. Results get mixed up. It happens. Somewhere something is wrong in what you are reporting to us. I certainly would want to know what. You seem to have been proactive in changing your lifestyle which is probably going a long way to making you healthier. Getting accurate information and results is part of that.

I’m really confused why you are just accepting conflicting information from the drs without any apparent urge to sort it out, particularly as it might be as simple as a phone call. There is a huge difference between hb1ac of 105mmol and prediabetic.

Edit to add: I am now wondering if you are scared of what you might be told. Tbh with figures like you’re getting now I’d bet the hb1ac was not what is reported. And even if it was right you’ll be well on the way to lowering it already. But it could have bearing on the afib as has been mentioned.

My BG last night was 4.4 after gym, had a few nuts to kill the hunger. My last meal was at 3pm yesterday, so I’ve been fasting more or less since 3pm. My waking up BG was 4.5 today

Are you aware that fasting readings are the last to fall and yet yours show non D?

Trying to get them on the phone

I am a little scared with what has happened mate, afib and when the Dr at Hospital told me I am in the early stages of Diabetes. Unfortunately, I just got on to the phone and my GP is on holiday, so the locum can't give me a telephone appointment!

I was not aware of this. I'm fasting to lose fat, and to improve my body. In March, my fasting readings were around 5.8 - 6.2. But when I started gym, and controlled my eating times, my fasting fell to around 5.4, and now resides at 4.4! It's something to be proud of but i'm not getting too excited... need to lose the fat on my body.

people say i dont look fat, but I am

Im not surprised. It’s a bit of a rough way to shake up your life. But you are getting on top of it.

A locum should be able to confirm results they already hold and you’ve already been given, albeit in a confusing way! A locum is still a dr and is there to handle cases whilst the gp is away. In fact pretty much anyone should be able to. I’d feel fobbed off in your shoes and be phoning back.

Mate, my surgery is appalling. So many people have left and gone elsewhere. The locum will not speak to me and receptionist is saying I need to speak to the Dr. Next appointment with my GP is in Mid May!

Hey mine is in special measures it’s so bad! I hear your problems.

You are legally entitled to a copy of any test results. They should be putting them online too. A dr may need to authorise release of the results but as you’ve already been told them (perhaps not correctly but for this purpose that’s by the by) there should be not problem. The locum should be able to do this. Telephone appointments may be another option.

When someone is lowering their blood glucose levels and is highly insulin resistant it’s often the morning fasting figure that stays highest even when other times through the day are doing well. For many getting that fasting figure where they want it is the final bit of control and when they’ve got that they feel they have wrangled the diabetes demon successfully, well for now at least. So if ALL your figures including fasting are in range you’re doing all the right things and just keep doing it. I know you want to lose fat, it’ll happen, it just takes a bit of time sometimes. Measurements and pictures might be a better measure rather than scales, especially if you’re hittting the gym.

If in the UK, you can request your test results from the hospital. This is true whether you were an 'in patient' or your blood etc. was sent there to be tested. There should be no charge for this.

HSSS

I am not one to complain in regards to our dear National Health Service. I hold it very dear to me. In fact, when I had my AFIB episode, I knew something was wrong and I knew it would be quicker for me to drive to the hospital than call an Ambulance out, the healthcare professionals at the A&E gave me a right telling off for driving in to hospital!

There were people complaining about how warm the food was, one person complained about the Weetabix not being real Weetabix, but it was real when the catering staff brought the boxes round.

I am grateful. But I believe in Professionalism and standards where required. But an appalling service causes inefficiency.

My fasting glucose is no more than 4.4mmol - 5.2 mmol. To be honest, I haven't seen 5.0mmol or 5.2mmol. My BG after 2 hours is under 6, and I am going to test it for the 3 hour one later on.

I want to lose my belly and bum! It seems so difficult! Yes, I get dissapointed when I get on to the scale, I drink a lot of water, for example, I woke up with my weight at 89.8kg today, and then I had 1.5L of water, and a cup of tea, my weight on the scale shot up to 92.8kg, I was so depressed. But I remembered, its not numbers, its how you look.

Went out and brought a tape measure, and I take monthly pics. My next set of pics are due tomorrow!

I thought the hospital doctor said your HbA1c was 105, which is very high and absolutely not in the early stages. I thought it was your GP who said early stages. Can you clarify this?

I don't know the best way of getting hospital test results. It is not easy. When I asked I was told I would need to apply in writing, in person at the hospital. This was when I was not an in-patient.

All GP surgeries in England should have their own ordered blood test results on-line for you to see, but not any taken at the hospital. You can, however, ask for a copy of the report sent by the hospital to your GP - either by asking the GP or the secretary of the hospital consultant. You are entitled to these automatically if you ask. I have all mine.

There is no reason why the locum could not speak to you on the telephone. I would not have accepted this reply.

Can’t the receptionist at least give you a printout of the results, Charlie, (about which, after all, you have already seen your GP? For your own admin.)

Good luck in getting the co-operation you need from them. Here, I can get a printout of my results from the receptionist any time and also have them in an app. (But then this is Holland.)

Katie

The locum said that hba1c cannot be found anywhere other than the hospital discharge letter.

Did you get the repeat hb1ac to clarify what’s actually happening with you done yet? I know you said in May but can’t recall when.
