I will try the avocado, how does it help with weight
All I can say about avocado and weight is I lost a bunch. I replaced lots of saturated fats with mono / plant fats and lost weight. It is so satisfying and holds me from 8 until 3 with a few pecans around noon. Since it keeps bs so steady it eleviates the fluctuating bs hunger so I need way less snacks. It's mostly healthy fat and fiber so nothing really in it to raise bs OR insulin. Best way to start the morning. Keeping everything as low and steady as possible. I save most of my protein for lunch and dinner. I eat a whole one a day. Half at BF and the other half split between lunch and dinner. There are so many different ways to eat it. BF I usually smash or just chunk with sea salt. Sometimes I make guacamole but tedious lol. I like it creamy on lettuce wraps in place of mayo. I chink it into chopped salads. Loads of people use it in a smoothie but I like it by itself and wonder if blending it would cause more of a spike. Not sure. But it could be blended with romaine celery onion cilantro corriander cumin and some hot sauce or red pepper flakes.
It had been the most bs satisfying food I have ever found. I spent my life ravenously Hungary even on low carb and this took all that away. Not am I not thinking about food and when is my next meal watching the clock but I eat far less food. So it did help with weight. I have suggested it to many and not only on this forum and they are amazed how filling it is and how long they can go between meals without snacking. It truly is my super food.

Let me know if you try it!!!

Will do, need to get to the shops 1st... bit hard to get out at the moment as my 6 year old broke his toe (v hard work to keep him sitting down and he keeps knocking it which sets the 6weeks starting again!) Probably send hubby to buy some. Will try some of that as i have hit a plateu with my weight while eatung very little.

Ok. 2 hrs after the soup it is down to 6.6 which is where it is supposed to be for non diabetic! Just dont like the high spike inbetween... though better than it used to be and shows that i have some insulin (or at least it is working)

I don't like spikes either even if they come down. Half an avocado with celery in the morning I go from 85-93 or less. Some random days I get a weird tad higher spike but it's not always food. When this happens its around 3 hours so more likely activity. This BF had worked for a long time. For me finding a BF that doesn't spike bs OR insulin was most important. If I mess up BF with a spike the whole day is messed. It keeps me very satisfied. I eat small meals and small snacks and I would say around 1200 cals. What type of foods are you eating? Calories don't matter to me but macros do. Fat 80%, prot in15% and carbs 5%. If I'm hungry I eat something fatty. In THE ABSENCE of carbs fat does not make you fat. However, for me, ANY kind of grains, starch , sugar or carbs over 20 a day as well as all forms of dairy will make me fat.

Very sorry to hear about your son. Must be challenging.....

Hi, i would know what you all eat and if you follow any diet, but please be specific and nice... also please tell the bg results you get with the meal (aprox is ok)

LCHF under 50g carbs a day/ketogenic diet, so in moderation:
meat, oily fish, poultry, eggs, full fat dairy products [except higher lactose milk and thin cream], nuts & seeds [including flour or ground versions - e.g milled flax/linseed or sesame flour for baking], nut oils and butters, olives and olive oil, avocados, coconut oil, butter & cream, mainly about ground veggies, salads, berries & other UK low sugar varieties of fruits in small quantities, cocoa and high (85% cocoa content) dark chocolate. So freshly prepared and as little highly processed food as possible

After meal levels are generally well within normal range (well under 7.5), but depend on meal content (e.g. proportion of carbs/protein/fat and actual quantities eaten), but also on general state of health and well being - stress, illness, pain, medication, liver dumps, and the weather can and do affect my levels, so they're not necessarily all due or even related to my diet!

ETA:
Last week's averages:
fasting: 6.3
pre meal: 6.0
post meal: 6.5
overall: 6.3

Lol, struggling to keep him still!

As for food i go between fasting (religiously) and just low carbing.

I dont look at the balance... more about cutting out carbs, then i realised when you said about your bf that it may be the protein that is spiking me too... hiwever hormones do play a part for us woman.

I eat a lot of north african dishes and follow a mediteranean diet mostly, like metewem a meat soup packed with flavour or salads. I have made a 90% chocolate mousse that comes out ok topped with raspberries and blueberries. Unfortunately i ran out of most of my food stuff because i havent been able to shop.

Today i gave in and had a finger scrape of the chocolate cream off the triple chocolate gateux hubby left in the fridge... i will pay for that one...

Thanks for the info good list as well.

Has any one tried gram flour? It is a chick pea flour used by the arabs and some asians! I know chick peas are ok but looking for alternatives as the coconut flour and almond flour are expensive as well as really dry!

Protein really spikes me especially I. The morning. I do need to keep my protein moderate. I eat about 2 oz animal: fish protein for both lunch and dinner. It didn't always raise me but it sure does now. In the absence of carbs, gluconeogenisis proceeded rapidly. If you're eating carbs then it might not. I have to stay under 20 a day to stay in ketosis. I also know that meal size makes a big difference. I use salad plates at all meals or I just keep eating lol.

You have the advantage of walking off your indiscretions. That doesn't work for me anymore unfortunately

I can't sit still for more than a few minutes. Poor guy....

What is ketosis? Sorry have heard of it being mentioned but never understaood it... how do you know you have it? Probably really stupid question!

Anyway only 5.7 after the cheaky bit of cake... better than after an omlette!

Not stupid at all. I wasn't born knowing what ketosis is. We have to learn along the way.

Best ( non technical) way for me to describe it, and I'm sure others can do better, is when you become a fat burner rather than a carb burner. Also when your body uses ketones from dietary fat as well as the fat on your body. The way to get into ketosis and stay into ketosis is VLC, many need to stay under 20 g carbs, MODERATE protein, generally 1g per kg of your IDEAL weight ( what you would weight without body fat, and just enough fat to satisfy. Over eating carbs AND protein can keep you out of ketosis. This is why Atkins induction works at 20 g carbs however he allowed too much protein. New evidence says 4-6 oz for most adults is plenty. I thought that was a ridiculously small amount. It equates to a can of salmon for the entire day. I read the Rosedale diet and he speaks of leptin ( a hunger hormone) and how protein converts to bs if over eaten. No more than 3 oz per meal and I find this exactly correct. I am not built like a brick house. 5'8 and 122# s. So k eat 4 oz a day. Being is ketosis also preserves muscle. I could not figure out what kept my bs higher than I likes with just fat and protein and next to no carbs. Then I cut way back on protein and bs can down emmediatley. The stomach far drpopped emmediatley as well. Energy through the roof, great mental clarity and blood markers. It's a way to keep glycogen stores fairy empty. Once glycogen store are full pretty much everything turns to BS as bs has no where to go. So, cooking 2 oz protein seems ridiculous. Now I cook in bulk and freeze in 2 oz portion baggies. Luckily I enjoy cold steak, lamb, shrimp, poultry etc. I just defrost in water for 15 min and use a lettuce wrap or make a chopped salad for most meals. I have no bs surprises, muscle has been stable and bs most always between 80-100.

Good news on the choco indulgence but you ,isn't want to start paying attention to protein. It doesn't effect everyone but your meter will tell you.

Thanks... ok i get the logic and is true that protein can be used as energy for the body didnt realise it could be turned into fat! Will go back to my salads then... a salad with cheese on sounds better to get into ketosis then.

Not so sure about chick peas.. carb content seems to vary but they look a little high for me.. guess the flour would be the same.

Maybe i will try it! If my bgl rise after it will let you all know but if it doesnt will share with you so that others may be able to try and find a new alternative.

Great news! Glad it worked.

Personally I wouldn't even experiment with chick pea flour. Hummus raises me more than it should. And I keep carbs under 20 but your meter will tell. I don't bother with baked goods anymore. I just scratched them off the list. Too carby and high cal.

Any way my 2 hr reading for breakfast was 5.7

I eat half an avocado but I buy big ones. I suppose I COULD eat more but no need. Actually the more I eat the hungrier I get so I guess I do better with small meals and a few snacks.
