Hi All

What sort of foods to you snack on if you're feeling peckish in the evenings? My husband usually gets the Toblerone out (the BIG one) and I used to have one or two pieces of that. As I am newly diagnosed Type 2 I am avoiding anything obviously sugary at the moment.

I quite like crackers and Marmite.

I like to pick at almonds. Or cheese. I LOVE Cheese.

Dark chocolate is ok if it's just 1 or 2 squares

Cheese, sugarfree jelly and cream, matthesons smoked sauage, nuts, 74% or higher cocoa chocolate.

It is, but if you are greatly reducing your carbohydrate intake you need the fat in foods to substitute and give you energy. So cheese is better for you than a slice of bread, bizarre I know!

On a high fat lo carb diet, I don't feel as hungry between meals if at all. If I do feel the need, I'll have one big tablespoon of peanut or almond butter. They really are a challenge to get swallowed but love it. Macadamia or almonds... A hand full. Tell your husband he'll be type2 next unless he quits is toblerone .

I certanly have a lot to learn, but definitly looking forward to becoming healthier. I already feel a lot better than I did a week ago. I have my first appointment with the Diabetic nurse on 13th Feb so hoping to come away with lots of info. I have alrady learned a lot from ths forum.
Thanks everyone.

Julie, HFLC diets are mentioned extensively within these forums. They're like your more recent Atkins diet. Many Nhs diabetes nurse's speak from a script. Mine told me to carry on eating potatoes and pasta. Apart from lack of exercise, sugar in tea and coffee, potatoes, pasta and rice were the only sources of my glucose. I never drank coke, any fizzy drinks, only the odd soft drink and a Single JD at nights. So it's not like I had much to zero in on.

I have a handful or unsalted nuts or sugar free angel delight or jelly

I tried some pork scratching the other week, but just didn't like them. I prefer nuts........... :p

Just off to Tesco to stock up on a lot of your suggestions. I was desperate for something to snack on last night but haven't got round to doing any shopping so ended up eating grapes. I think they are high in sugar, so not the best thing.
I will be buying Low Sugar Angel Delight, 74% choccy, sugar free jelly and low fat cheese.
Yummy!! :hungry:

Melt some dark choc add a handful of almonds mix well then seperate and put in fridge to harden Keep husband well away !!
