What does Ketogenic diet contain?

Can sometime tell me the ingredients of a Ketogenic diet. I recently came to know about this. I have been using the whole grain diets to level my T1D. I am an Asian, most of the berries and leaves that are present in UK is not available in my country.

Basically you eat VERY low carbohydrate food..aiming daily intake as low as 20g or even less, so that you body turns into ketone producing mode...using its own fat reserves for energy. You can also look into Low carbohydrate-High fat =LCHF diet that is essentially same...or can be taken into same level as ketonic diet..all depends of level of carbs intake.

The actual number of grams needed for a ketogenic diet varies a great deal from person to person.

It can be anywhere from approx. 50g carbs downwards, depending on the individual.

People who want to get into ketosis fast often choose 20g carbs or less, but there is no 'rule' about it, and I am not sure that a T1 should aim for such a drastic change.

Several of the T1s on the forum (@robert72 - hope you don't mind me tagging you?) chose to step down gradually with their carbs so that they could monitor their insulin reduction properly as they did so.

I have been low-carbing and in ketosis for about 2.5 years. As @Brunneria says, I worked my way down to low-carb over several months so that I had time to get used to replacing major carbs and adjusting insulin during that time. I started by cutting out the major carb from my evening meal and having extra veg. I also tried taking in more fat during the day - like yoghurt and seeds for breakfast. I also use more butted and coconut oil. There are loads of low-carb recipies on the forum, but I guess you will need to adapt them a bit using foods available in your country.
