A chip butty may be just the thing to push it to the limitswell apart from a slow first response you would probably come in as normal to pre at worse. The slow first response is probably due to low carb. Have the same for a few days and then report back. You cant really tell from one slice of bread.
If you are courageous, try a chip butty and see what it does!

I tried a test....115g of carb in the form of a good old fashioned chip butty. After one hour...only 8.4 which surprised me....after 2 hours however...it went to 13.3...now it just waiting to see how long it takes to go down to normal. The question wasn't so much would it make my BG go up but more by how much to verify one way or another if I am type 2 or pre diabetic....2 nurses say I am type 2 diabetic...the gp says I am borderline diabetic. From the readings this and previous tests have thrown up I would think I am definately diabetic as my HbA1c of 6.5 said I was on day one. BG numbers shouldn't be going up to 15.0 and higher if I don't have a problem....I simply want my gp's surgery to document the fact I am diabetic to ensure I get eye checks etc that I need to have. Back to eating healthy tomorrow for meHow will you know what happens unless you test?
You need to know how much of a certain type of food makes your blood glucose levels bounce around or spike to high to come back to around normal after 2 hours. You may because of low carb and full fats digest slower and it might be you return to normal around three hours, not two!
Only by testing and trial and error, will you know.
It could also be portion size of a certain food.
For example, chips! You may be able to have around 5 chips and your bloods will be fine.
Whereas ten chips will spike you too high to return to normal.
You have a certain amount of control by testing now, you will be able to find out in the short term, for the rest of your life. You need answers, find them out now, so you're not wondering later on.

50/50 bread with Cant Believe Its Not Butter spread..just how I used to eat before all this diabetic stuff began..it was yummy...perhaps too yummyOnly a blood test can really diagnose wether you are or what type you are.
Your experiment shows that your tolerance to a chip butties (was it nice?, it's been so long!) Is poor, but was it the bread? Was it the chips? Did you have butter or spread? If neither, maybe butter might help slow digestion to help your bloods!
Only testing will let you know!

Have to ask....how on earth can you eat all that ..only go up to just over 8 and be back at 5.5 so quickly?.....3 hours on I am still climbingI would say diabetic like your nurses but your HbA1c is borderline as your Dr says but that may be your low carb diet reducing its level. For comparison I had chips, icecream, praline chocolates and licquorice this evening (saturday is my blow out day) and peaked at just over 8 and down to 5.5 an hour later. I do not see double figures anymore even after 1/2 lb of licquorice.
A good experiment next time try it with a brisk walk before or after eating and it will get your muscles all alive and ready/willing to soak up the glucose.
I know from the symptoms I had before the blood screen that something was very wrong. The gp is an idiot and I have up to now taken control of my bg and kept it low by eating very low carb. Today I experimented and it made me see I am indeed diabetic and will continue to look after it the best I can with or without the doctors help. I will discuss it with the nurse after the next blood tests in a few weeks. Thank you for that information ...very helpfulI think the cut off for diabetes is set far to high. I go by the research on normal BG http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.php and keep my BG by LCHF as I have learnt from http://www.dietdoctor.com/.
I aim for never above 7 at any time and last HbA1c was 33.
You do your own research and set your own goal for how to manage BG but LCHF works so well for so many so you could give it a try should you want to.
I dont use it anymore...it was only for the test today....I use butter nowI hope you'll get rid of those vile margarine and stuff too and go for proper, organic butter, the real stuff, It rocks. I wouldn't even polish my shoes with spread.
