I drink Tea/Coffee a lot (at least 8-10 cups ,small size) a day . I add some Stevia powder(to make the drink sweet) and coffee mate/whitener with drinks. Am I doing the wrong thing? Any advice?

Caffeine can raise BS levels in some people.
You would be better with a dash of proper milk. I don't know, but I imagine coffee mate/whitener have added sugar of some description.

Coffee Mate ingredients:
GLUCOSE SYRUP, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (MAY CONTAIN COCONUT, PALM KERNEL AND/OR SOYBEAN OIL), SODIUM CASEINATE (A MILK DERIVATIVE), DIPOSTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, SODIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE, MONOGLYCERIDES, ACETYLATED TARTARIC ACID ESTERS OF MONO- AND DYGLYCERIDES, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOUR, COLOUR.

You would definitely be better with a dash of proper milk!

What do you mean by proper milk? What about evaporated milk say Carnation types ?

I think your milk in Canada is proper milk in fact some say the best milk in the World.:)

I mean ordinary cow's milk, or lactose free milk. Carnation Milk is almost all sugar! Personally I use skimmed milk in tea because I don't like it creamy, and I use double cream in coffee. But never very much of either type.

I've just been astonished to read that Coffee-Mate has 1g carb per serving, so about the same as fresh milk, really. Personally, I don't like it at all, but it doesn't seem like a monster, carb-wise.

I have, however, found that caffeine does impact on me far more these days. It's not so much on my levels, but just how I feel. I'm more susceptible to caffeine jitters these days.

I don't have sugar or sweetner in my tea but if I drink it in the afternoon it makes me go high for some reason!

Thanks Charisma. Does sweeteners really harm?

I'm not sure I rarely use it but I hear so much bad press about it. I prefer tea without it but I'd still use it in baking and on my porridge. I've heard some brands have less of an effect than others but no idea which ones

drunk-santa-smiley-emoticon.gif Well. I'm a coffeeholic. Grind the beans blah blah... Apart from double cream. The only additive is the booze.. I can't tell you about its affect on my bg, because I am not giving up coffee long enough to find out..

I use decaffeinated tea and haven't had milk in tea for 30yrs also when diagnosed gave up my one spoon of sugar. Still miss it but glucose levels more important and I don't get any problems with 6 cups a day.I appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea!!!(can't do the smiley faces)

My tea/ coffee intakes are too high too . I use stavia powder as substitute of sugar, but can not avoid milk (evaporated or Coffee mate)

Have you tried Nut milks? the unsweetend versions are v low carb (3g/100ml) and make a decent cup of coffee.
