What else can I have...

There have been some really helpful replies about my lunch dilemma, which leads to another question - sorry  which is...

What can I have with the soup (if anything) is it okay to have a small plate of salad with it? I have just made Petras fabby mushroom soup for my tea but I am worried that I am still going to be hungry  . Any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks again

Julie

You can have salad if you want Julie.

When you first start out lowering your carb intake and eating smaller portions then sometimes you do feel hungry. It will wear off once you are used to the new way of eating. Tell yourself this is for you, your health and future, a hunger pang is worth it I think. Find something to take your mind off it till bed time, it's not easy but not impossible either, we've all been there to start with.

when i need somnehtign extra like that I finish off with a piece of cheese, or sometimes even sprinkle the cheese in the soup to make it more substabtial. Or sometimes I finish with some peanuts or almonds.

Thank you for your replies - I have just made a hartleys sugar free jelly so I may have some of that for desert tomorrow :D

I have found that my appetite has got smaller and I don't need as much food. Unfortunately sometimes my eyes don't agree ( eyes bigger than my stomach syndrome  ) and I plate up too much and then about an hour later feel waaaaaay too full :( . It's something I'm trying to learn but tend to forget when I'm feeling hungry.

Interestingly I did read/hear recently that diabetics (though it wasn't specific which type) also lack the hormone(?) that indiccates to your brain that you are full when eating and therefore makes you prone to eat more than you need

That could be true for me - I never feel full when I eat and so I can easily overeat. I don't seem to have a stop mechanism (appestat?). I always eat all that's on my plate unless I don't like it very much. I was forced to do that as a child (whether I liked it or not - think of all the starving children...You wouldn't waste food if you had lived during the War...) - which I've always thought was the cause. Yet my Mother was on a perpetual diet. It never occurred to me that this might be linked to diabetes. However being type 2 I got diabetes much later in life but having always cleaned every plate since I was a child. I do try to leave something now but don't usually succeed, but put less on my plate instead.

Do you know what the actual carb content of this particular soup is per 100 g please ?

Cugila, I have just looked on the Heinz website and cut and pasted this:

Nutrient Per 100g
Energy - kJ 206kJ
(Calories) 49kcal
Protein 1.6g
Carbohydrates 4.5g
(Of which sugars) (1.5g)
Fat 2.8g
(Of which saturates) (0.4g)
Fibre 0.1g
Sodium 0.3g
Salt Equivalent 0.7g

Ingredients:
Water, Mushrooms (4%), Vegetable Oil, Modified Cornflour, Dried Skimmed Milk, Cream, Wheat Flour, Chicken (2%), Milk Proteins, Flavourings, Salt, Yeast Extracts, Stabiliser - Polyphosphates and Sodium Phosphates, Sugar, Herb Extracts, Spice Extract, Colour - Beta-carotene

Think the tin is 400g

Hope this helps :)
