Could you have a word with your aqua instructor to devise a work around any exercises that use the area you have to avoid putting under stress?
Aqua isn't a problem with the arm, it's a very leisurely workout with a group of people mostly 20 years my senior. There's just a 6 week pause for the summer holiday. The issue is with the gym, I like a serious workout doing strength training, which has improved my back pain a lot as well, but I'm not allowed to at the moment.
My plan is to await the MRI and its results, hopefully we'll have a better idea on what is wrong after that. And then contact a physio for advise on how to do some strength training without hurting myself. It's rather difficult because it doesn't hurt, so I can't even use pain as a guidance on what I can or shouldn't do. I only have 4 covered physio sessions left this year so I'll need to use them strategically.

For now, I'll try to swim every morning, even if it's only 15 minutes. This may need some external pressure though.
@Annb and others who are visiting this thread daily, would you mind telling me very clearly I must go for a swim if I haven't already for the next couple of days, or else...
I really think it would help me, it's just too easy to find weak excuses if the only person knowing you didn't do your chores is yourself...

Arrgh such a minefield with the statins isn’t it. Good luck with making the right decision. I don’t know if this is of any help but it is interesting in a very general way https://www.nhs.uk/health-assessment-tools/calculate-your-heart-age

Love the thought of everyone around here, keeping an eye on you and making you go for a swim you can do it! (easy for us to say)

Cool!
Just tell me to get my lazy behind off the couch and off the forum if I haven't had my swim yet tomorrow morning! No posting until after swimming!

Sounds like a plan @Antje77.

I used to love tennis, especially mixed doubles, but had to hang up my racket some years ago because of adhesive capsulitis, otherwise known in English as frozen shoulder. Some disorders do not improve unless the affected body part(s) are rested.

That said, it's important to keep as mobile as possible and swimming may well be the solution.

Well, of all the excuses for not posting....! Anyone would think you'd been busy . Nice to know you're OK though

There's lots of threads on this , and some posts just today. Seems no simple answers, do own research, make own decisions - hopefully with GP involvement.
I'd also add, if something is prescribed, it doesn't have to be taken. And if started it can always be stopped. Needn't be a binding decision

I’m currently in an airport awaiting a flight to a visit that will include swimming in one of the Great Lakes, a first for me. I’m expecting it to be considerably warmer than my own bottom of my garden snow melt lake. So far this year I’ve ventured in there twice, both times peer pressure from a visiting 82 year old aunt!

I'm sure that even gentle swimming will be a help and, even though I would find it painful, swimming outdoor in very cold water, will probably do even more good to you both physically and mentally. I can't help but admire your strength and endurance doing that outdoor swimming. Keep it up. Wonder if you've swum today yet - it's pretty early, I suppose.

Just about to make breakfast - it will be some more of the cod and orange dish I made yesterday to finish it off - might add a bit more of the cauliflower/coconut mixture to bulk it out a bit.

I will also make cassoulet for later - in case I feel like eating a 2nd meal.

@Antje77 hope you've managed a swim today?
It's been dull and some showers here today so restricted our exercise to indoor weights and resistance training. Put some great music on and really enjoyed the session.
Talked the statins through with George yesterday - thank you guys for your suggestions and advice - and he decided that as all his other numbers were good and that the increase in his total cholesterol was due to a rise in HDL not LDL that he felt that the possible side effects on his cognition were greater than any possible benefits. He said that the pharmacist seemed nervous and when he politely declined the prescription the pharmacist rapidly said he'd just put him down for a yearly review and George just thanked him for ringing. It's a personal decision but I feel he's made the right choice. Nearly nine years ago ( May 2015) when diagnosed as Diabetic I was issued with the standard statins prescription and I had very severe muscle problems and so came off them pretty quickly so that's made me refuse them every time since - which I have been on a regular basis since as my cholesterol is high!

I can imagine how peer pressure from an 82 year old leaves you with no option but to go in and act like you enjoy it too.
Enjoy your trip, and tell us all about it!
The water is a very pleasant 22 °C at the moment, so the only trouble is getting off the couch to go swimming.
But yes, I stuck to my plan and put on my bathing suit under my clothes after waking up, brewed coffee, fed animals and went out, drinking my first coffee in the car!
I'll try again tomorrow! Which will be harder because my cleaner comes tomorrow morning, So I'll have to set the alarm earlier... I'll do it anyway!

Got a phonecall from yet another neighbour down the road to ask if I could help out driving a young hawk to the bird sanctuary with a friend of hers.
Of course!
So after my swim I picked them up, and I even got to hold the hawk!

Glad you got to your swim @Antje77 , and to hold a hawk too!

Nothing so interesting here. Mainly a day of texts supporting my relative who has been admitted to hospital and is petrified. The NHS has nothing in place to help people like him. He needs certainty, everything explained, then time to assimilate the info etc etc. 5 hours in triage, 6 hours waiting for a bed . I'm exhausted and I wasn't even there, just on the phone.

Ended up having early lunch of egg wrap with cold sausage and coleslaw.
Hubby did encourage me out for a walk so did a regular route across country to local garden centre but found it almost impassable with brambles and nettles. Took far longer to trample our way through them. He celebrated with a coconut slice, I had ginger tea!

Dinner was seedy crackers, some with garlic cream cheese, some with pate, and coleslaw.
Shared a mini icecream with the cat

I just received an email with a cooler picture so here it is!

How amazing to be able to hold such a lovely bird.

Food today is going to be a disaster carb-wise. For some reason my BG's gone haywire and I keep dropping down into hypos. Struggling to keep it up to a reasonable level and so far have had:

a whole packet of fruit pastilles
the last 2 oatcakes
two dry RyVitas
one banana
a dish of cold cassolet
2 mugs of tea with plenty of milk
a mug of milky coffee - made with sweet Camp coffee - usually used to make coffee cakes

and it's still dropping - lifts into the lower 4's briefly after some carb then drops into the 3's and 2's a few minutes later. I've just called the Health Centre to cancel my appointment for rebandaging my legs for today and asked Neil not to go to town meantime, in case I need help.

I started with BG at 6.3 at 03.30 today - had my first mug of tea and a couple of Panadol, and dozed off in the chair. When I woke again an hour later it was 8.1. Another cup of tea and my basal insulin and an hour later (in the shower) I was approaching a hypo at 3.5. Took a couple of fruit pastilles to stop the drop but it just kept on going. Before long I was sweating and shaking and Libre read 2.5. More fruit pastilles and a RyVita (didn't butter it because I wanted it to act quickly). BG rose to 3.4, then the Libre decided not to work again for a while so I turned to my Accuchek finger pricker. It told me my BG was 6.6, which, feeling the way I was, could not have been correct. Eventually I got the Libre to give me a reading. 2.5 this time. And so it has gone for the last 3 hours and showing no sign of sorting itself out.

I wondered if I had made a mistake and taken my basal insulin twice but I have absolutely no memory of doing so and looking at the level still in the pen, I don't think I did. Not sure what the issue is but I will just have to try to keep on top of it until it sorts itself out. Right now my Libre has gone on strike again and says that no reading is available - try again in 10 minutes!

As I said, today is going to be a disaster carb-wise.

EDIT: Libre just warned me that my BG is over 8! Forgot to add that I was quite cavalier and had about half a bar of Lindt milk chocolate with almonds because I was desperately looking for carbs to consume.

That sounds very tricky @Annb hope you start feeling better soon.

After all that, I'd be happy to run a little higher the rest of the day and tomorrow @Annb !
